Emma Watson in an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast?

The eternally-busy Guillermo del Toro may have already lined-up another upcoming project. Crazy, Stupid, Love. producer Denise Di Novi told ComingSoon.net at that film's New York junket today that she's developing an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast alongside del Toro and that Emma Watson is lined up to star.

Del Toro's next film, Pacific Rim is about to head into production with a cast that includes Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi. Watson, meanwhile, is coming off the record-breaking success of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 and can next be seen in My Week With Marilyn later this year and The Perks of Being a Wallflower in 2012.

Ugh, hate adaptions! The only exception is Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp, the others are all so lame. I mean, look at Cinderella's story! Especially the one with Selena Gomez. Choosing her ruined the entire film already in the pre-productions. Anyway, as long as it doesn't turn out in a teenage love drama it might (MIGHT) be okay.. but this is dangerous.. Most suck.

The question is who'll be the beast.

I agree with you Birgit, but I totally trust Del Toro. He's not the kind of guy who does cheesy movies, he's great.

I think this Beauty and the Beast adaptation is going in the same wavelength as Alice in Wonderland. I've seen Del Toro's movies and I think he's going to put an interesting spin on the story.

Making a Del Toro movie would be very nice for Emma, but she's at school, she won't do it. But i'd like to see her doing this. Guillermo Del Toro would surely do a brilliant adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. If the project turns out well it will probably be worth watching, unlike the snow white remakes they're making with kristen stewart and a whole bunch of too-much american actors and stars. Public don't want stars in stupid movies. they want movies true to their stories. that's one of the Potter movies strenght.

If they film next summer she could do it.

Anonymous said...

Yeah... you,re right Eden... or during her breaks, if they really want her to star in it? It would be fun tho. I like Del Toro. making good movies most of the time.

Del Toro is a brilliant director, I'd love to see his vision of beauty and the beast! I'd totally trust him with it and he'd be wonderful for Emma to work with. He's also on her list of directors she wants to work with. It would be a very good move for her, he's really well respected.
If she decides to do it I'd imagine it would be next summer, most actors are booked a year in advance so this coming out now would make sense. It would be really smart of her to do something like this. Working with good directors is the way to go.

There's more than enough time next summer for her to do this if they put her scenes together. She's said she wants to continue working during her breaks and hopefully make a movie a year. A Del Toro movie would be a fabulous choice!

That would be a pretty good project for her next summer.

I wonder if there is any chance of her sneaking in a movie before she goes to Oxford in October. If she waits until next summer to do a movie it won't come out until the summer of 2013. That's a pretty big gap after Perks.

Maybe she is in LA right now to discuss some small movie role. Something that could be done in like 2 weeks or so. I am just dreaming, I guess.

Anonymous above:She said already she want's to travel this Summer,so no

I read somewhere it's not sure if the Script is written yet

All this things take a long time to get to the production stage. There needs to be writes and rewrites and all the crew and production time needs to be got and a studio and somewhere to film it book and all the costumes, sets etc made and all castings completed. Next summer would be the best bet, if it's real and she's in it (fingers crossed cos Del Toro even as a producer is awesome).

Anon at 8.26, it's about quality not quantity. Her name won't disappear after a year, she needs good roles with good directors, not just a movie a year. I hope she takes her time and picks the right stuff, she shouldn't rush into anything. Actors can be out of the limelight for ages and one good role can bring them back majorly again. Emma is leading lady in the biggest movie series ever, her name is big and will be for awhile (lancome will also help), she doesn't need to panic and just take a role.

Well, Del Toro's Pacific Rim is about to go into production, and his productions can be quite large. With that, then the filming, then the post production, next summer is possible but it'll depend on the press for the movie. Also, Del Toro has been attached to and considered for many films but it's usually just speculation, so you never know.

Also, to add to my comments about Del Toro's productions, Pacific Rim is slated for release in 2013. So that should tell you how much work he's going to be putting into it. Whether he takes time off to do something else in between is hard to say, but I would doubt it. Quotes from Del Toro have said it's going to be a big, un-modest production and undertaking. So if he does do Beauty and the Beast, I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

In response to an Anon above me, Emma was a main character, yes, but even the trio actors have admitted that it's not really them, it's the characters and stories that Rowling created.

Humble as she is, she's a decent actress at best with the potential to grow, but I imagine that a lot of better actresses would circle a Beauty and the Beast adaptation. Especially one that might have Del Toro attached.

Considering that Del Toro is very very close to Alfonso Cuaron who really rates Emma and it was Del Toro who told Cuaron to do Potter, I'd say Del Toro working with Emma at some point isn't exactly unrealistic.

The script is still being worked on so she will not be shooting this next summer.

Maybe the summer after she graduates (2013) as it will take some time to get it all pulled together.

Whenever she does the project it be it next summer or 2013, it would be great for her, I just hope it's true. For her to have projects like this in the pipeline would be great. I think she wants to make movies each summer and it would be wonderful if they were with people like this. Something interesting next summer and then to go into it more full time when she finishes.

Anonymous said...

wonder if she will return to university now if true. She left Brown for the perks role. Has she been spotted in LA?

Anonymous said...

How do you know the script is being worked on? Where did you read that? For all you know it is done. Del Toro doesn't have to direct it. He can produce it. Emma is a big name and very good actress. I'm sure other actress would love the role but this is Emma's role.

Anonymous said...

Emma and very good actress should not go together. Lets not get ahead of ourselves. She has not proven she can act past one role. Her portral as hermione was never praised. She does nto have that many awards. Lets hold off on that until she has more roles under her belt. Anyone can read lines and show emtions we all have.

KAT said...

@anon above- "her portrayal of hermione has never been praised...". To quote Hermione, WHAT AN IDIOT!

You obviously don't read reviews amd haven't read her reviews over the past year because movie critics are going bat-shit crazy over Emma's acting. She gets nothing but praise for her acting. Please, before you make accusations like that, do your bloody research! Almost every reviewer on rotten tomatoes said the trio are brilliant actors, and many of them think that Emma is the best one right now. Sounds like you're living a little in the past, when Emma was the worst of the 3.

I will agree that she hasn't done anything outside Potter to prove herself, but your whole comment is just erroneous.

Anonymous said...

Anon - "How do you know the script is being worked on?"

Because a spec script does not even exist - much less a developed script for this project.

Anonymous said...

Emma never won any major awards for hermione. shes been in a drought for anything the last 5 years. awards mean people think she's talented. Kristen Stewart at least won a Bafta. What has emma won? Emma has never had great competition either but she loses.

And KAT, why the name calling? Am I not allowed to say how I feel?

Anonymous said...

I concur with KAT.

Most people agree that Emma did a very good job portraying Hermione overall. She had her ups and downs, and there are certainly some people who criticize her.

I thought she didn't quite nail the scene when Ron came back after a few weeks in DH Part 1. For the most part, though, she was very, very good in all 8 movies!

This may sound lame, but I thought she did really good as Pauline Fossil too, in Ballet Shoes.

Actually, there is a possibly prophetic scene concerning Emma's future when Pauline gets the Alice role and Winifred says: "She looks right for everything, she always will! ... It's got NOTHING, whatsoever to do with TALENT and it's so unfair!"

I think Emma has talent, but more importantly I think she has "The Look" that will get her good roles.

Anyway, I think she is going to blow all our minds as Sam in Perks of Being a Wallflower! And then in several other movies, too. - Gilbert

"Most people agree that Emma did a very good job portraying Hermione overall." Where do you get your facts? Re-word that to "Most Potter fans" please. That's the truth. If they are not making fun of Mae Whitman's looks, they are calling people idiots for only speaking their mind.

Anonymous said...

(Re-word that to "Most Potter fans" please.)

Most people are Potter fans. What is your point?

Kate said...

Most critics are currently quite complimentary of Emmas acting. The recent reviews I've read of her have been mainly positive. With ballet shoes the program itself received mixed reviews but Emma was reviewed quite favorably. Also most potter fans think she's done a good job of a very loved character. As David Yates has said though I think we have only seen a small amount of Emmas acting ability, we'll see more over the coming years and I'm sure she'll do well.

Anonymous said...

No one was specifically calling you an idiot anyway. KAT was quoting Hermione in the first Harry Potter movie. It was more of an anecdote than an insult. Lighten up a bit!

Anonymous said...

You mean Kathy. That's not KAT. She's the one would call everyone names before Eden shut off comments. But still she has no awards that make her stand out.

After Potter's record the sales are dropping that shows you its was the fans of teh franchise, not people in general going to see Potter.

Most people are potter fans. That's funny.

To the anon above, thanks you idiot. Is that light enough for you?

Angie said...

Okay, let's calm ourselves for a moment. First of all, not winning an award doesn't make you talentless. There are many good actors that have never been nominated in their career. Secondly, it's just speculation. We don't know if this project is going through yet. I hope it does, but we just have to wait and see. Finally, Emma's performance in HP doesn't conclude how talented she is in general. Just like Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. We only judge their acting by one character in one certain movie. Let's see in a few years after the Twilight movies if they have talent. The same thing with Emma, Dan, Rupert, and the other young actors in the movie. Yes they haven't proven to us yet if they're the real deal, but it takes time and a couple of projects for them to really hone their craft.

Anonymous said...

I can agree to that but I still say emma is all looks and no talent ang. she over hyped and overrated. But I understand where you are coming from.

lorenza said...

this is an amazing news:)but i wanted tell you that there are several new scans on emma-watson.net:)

Birgit said...

@Echee if you think Emma is talentless and hyped and overrated you should go. You're only annoying the people who really are a fan and above that, it looks like you're searching for fights.
So, please go and spare us all the problems. Have a nice life.

also not a fan of adaptation but it sounds good and emma said she likes his movies.

no offense but when i read his name i always have to think about some hot spanish toy boy, he looks kind of like michael moore ;)
