[CONFIRMED] Emma Watson in Sophia Coppola's BLING RING?

A man working at variety tweeted this:
XCLU: Emma Watson is Sophia Coppola's choice for lead in BLING RING

Variety is a very reliable source.

Sofia Coppola has tapped Emma Watson to star in "The Bling Ring," the true story of a group of teenagers who commit a string of celebrity burglaries.

Coppola will write and direct the pic, and will produce with brother Roman Coppola and Youree Henley. Executive producers are Fred Roos and Michael Zakin.

"I'm excited about the young cast we're assembling and I'm looking forward to shooting on location here in Los Angeles," Coppola said.

Though Watson has said she wants to dedicate more time to her studies, thesp has still found time for work, focusing more on small-budgeted projects post-"Harry Potter." She was recently seen in The Weinstein Co.'s "My Week With Marilyn" and just wrapped production on Fox Searchlight's "Perks of Being a Wallflower." She's also been tapped to star in David Yates' "Your Voice in My Head" for Warner Bros.

Coppola has made a habit of giving rising female stars material that's allowed them to break into more adult, such as Scarlett Johansson in "Lost in Translation" and, more recently, Elle Fanning in Coppola'ss last pic, "Somewhere." Watson is repped by WME and Markham, Froggatt & Irwin.

From Emma Watson Official:
We can confirm that Emma is to star in Sofia Coppola's new film "The Bling Ring".

The film is inspired by real events and follows a group of teenagers who, obsessed with fashion and fame, burgled the homes of celebrities in Los Angeles.
Emma says of the project, "I am so excited to work with Sofia Coppola. I have been an admirer of her work for many years. The script for "The Bling Ring" is fantastic and I can't wait to start filming."

Shooting begins this spring so keep watching this site for more updates!

A new week, an new rumored role for Emma. By the time she goes back to Brown in September she's going to be lined up for 47 different movies lol. Of course, the key phrase is that Emma is Sofia's choice, it doesn't mean that the film is Emma's lead choice. They are after going after Robert Patterson too for this film, you know that will infuriate the diehard Potters and Twihards :P

I don't think I like Emma doing this movie-I really don't think it will be a hit. The "Blong Ring" is old and forgotten news.

If Pattinson is in the movie, you know its going to be a flop anyway. Not personal opinion, I'm just stating facts that can be proven by rotten tomatoes and box office mojo... The last thing I need or want to see is a movie with RPattz, KStew or TayLau costarring with Dan, Rupert or Emma. Although it would probably make loads of money... Still, they should just stay away from each other, especially now because the media still continues the franchise "war." Like Chris said, it would EXTREMELY infuriate Twitards and Potterheads.

Sofia Coppola creates her twitter (https://twitter.com/#!/SCoppolaMars) and her first twitter is about Emma.

For me, it would be awesome if Emma has, one day, RPattz, Taylor or KStew for costar. Because this stupid war needs to stop. The actors aren't in war, just the two fandoms. That's all.

But for RPattz, it was just a rumor.

I don't really think it's Sofia Coppola, I think it's a faker.

Kristin said...

It could really be her. Maybe she joined Twitter to announce it. Either way, whether its a hit or not, I am still excited to see it.

Also, the fandom war isn't just about the fandom-the actors, especially Dan and RPattz are always being compared to each other (but we all know who has the upper hand.) I have my personal feelings about the Twilight trio, and they won't change anytime soon (although out of the 3, RPattz annoys me the least-when he's not promoting Twilight.) it doesn't mean I won't warch and support the movie, its just... Not now.

To avoid speculation, Coppola should release a press statement. Until its confirmed that that is actually her on twitter, we just have to wait and deal with the rumors.

I think it's great to see Emma in this film. Sofia Coppola is really great and will do the film justice. :-)

@Kristin I'm so glad I'm not the only one here who don't like this Idea at all, really glad. I read some Comments on JustJared and thought the People there would be the only one with me.
The Bling Ring is such a wrong Movie Idea. I don't understand at all how someone can think on making a Movie of them. If Sofia thinks she can show a different Site of fame, yes she will be, but she won't just show the Site, if you know what I mean. This about Pattinson was denied already, I think he said no from what I heard. I look at Pattinson Fan Accounts from Time to Time and know some Fansites

I think it would be the first Time I wouldn't think on watching a Emma Movie. I HATE this Bling Ring to much and the Idea of them getting a Movie. Well give them a Reason to be proud of theirself, why not. No Offence for Emma or Sofia or their Talent and not to say I don't understand how they came to Emma. But no, sorry Emma, even Kristy would be better.

I hope they change the name. I can't take it seriously as I keep picturing rap videos from the turn of the century.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like a terrible movie.
If anything, I hope Emma's American accent in Perks is decent, since she'll definitely need one for this movie.

Dont forget that the director is Sofia Coppola and she doesnt seem like somebody which make terrible movies for me. Kristy sounded much worse to me.
I love how people comes up with decision about movie before they see it or even read the script.

@Anonymous above: Have you ever heard of Ring Bling before? If not, think about what People and about what Story this Movie is gonna be made. This is not about People where you can say "Amazing, they deserve this" "They are gonna be my next Idol"
This has NOTHINGS to do with Emma, this is about the Story and People in the Story. Doesn't matter if Sofia, Yates or whoelse will direct, the Idea for this Movie is the Problem

emma watson is a graceful young actress with a eye-arresting presence. Sophia Coppola is a very talented director. I think the Bling Ring, just nobody expects too much from the film will more than stretch our imaginations. I think it is good that emma is taking different kind of roles to also learn from: going from a child actress in a kid's film,to My Week with Marilyn with a small role, to a supporting role in Perks, playing a vulnerable Sam, to Manic-depressive young woman in Your Voice in my Head, to The Bling Ring as a thief, will give her much time to reflect and consider what avenues her own writing will take. She will be fine by the time she is ready to go to Brown University. What i like about emma is that she is a multi-layered talent, who I believe will surprise her fans often and keep us interested in a creative career. I hope she writes something also. I'd love to read a book she writes and take a peek into her thoughts. (I don't mean to sound stalking)but her emotional and intellectual intelligence is very interesting in combination. Even her modeling is not just about being beautiful, but she sees herself in a role, which she plays well. I just hope she doesn't do that horror film Kristy. Then let her do your royal spyness, which would be delightful. Give people something to think about with your roles emma or give them joy, but don't frighten them.

So it's official now. Personally I don't know what to think about Bling Ring, but I don't have the greatest of feelings for it. Emma has seen the script and has talked to Sofia and the crew so she definately knows a hell of a lot more about the direction this movie will have so as of this moment I will giver her the benefit of the doubt that she knows what she is doing.

Sofia Cappola creates thought provoking films- virgin suicides. I hope this will be a thought-provoking film. I hate stupid movies.

It's being made by Sophia Coppola, and she does some very good movies. If they get a good cast, the movie might be a hit.

Emma says the script is fantastic, so it might be a hit.

I just hope they don't focus on the Paris Hilton, Brody Jenner, Audrina Patridge aspect of it and just make it about celebu-tarts. I hope this is a drama about the social torment and consequences that these "Bling Ring" members had to deal with after getting caught.

Also, where are they going to film? Are they going to film in Los Angeles?

emma has already confirmed the role on her website. Filming is LA.

How is she going to film while going to school? Is she's going to put school on hold again?

Eden said...

She's on break until April, 22. She has time to film.

I read that it is going to focus on the problems with society's obsession with hollywood, and how the "bling ring" is the most extreme example of that. It will definitely not show celebraties in a positive light. it is actually critiquing the entire reality show culture that some young people are so obsessed with. Sofia Coppola has never done a fluff movie. All of her films are thought-provoking. Do your research on Coppola, and then decide if the film is likely to be garbage.

I know that Sofia is great, she really is, but the whole Idea seems just wrong and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this or it wouldn't leave me in Peace.

I try to like this, really, but Fans don't give me Reasons either. Another Reason is it might be that eveyone seems to compare her with Rupert and Daniel again, geez People. You shouldn't really think Emma will do always american productions Movies, because I'm sure she won't and I don't know why so many People care so much about this. Noone knows what will happen, noone knows if Emma will stay like that, so just support her, don't compare her.

I'm not sure if I can post the Link, but someone found it on Twitter http://1andsometruth.blogspot.com/2012/02/rupert-grint-daniel-radcliffe-emma.html People shouldn't be suprised of such Blogs, if they won't start to learn some Things, instead of looking into the Future always. Sorry for the Owner of this Blog, but some Emma Fans really annoy me at this very moment with this News

emma is moving on gracefully from HP, I'm just glad, she didn't swing in to opt for a Oscar for HP. Although, I am an HP fan, I didn't like them comparing HP to LOTR. LOTR was allowed to settle in people'S consciousness for decades, while the HP films were churned out after the books. IN my opinion this was not good for the story as a film. Yes,they were entertaining but not Oscar worthy.
As mentioned in the comments, she is going to UNi again. I'm glad that she is staunch on developing her talents and intellect and not depend on a fickle entertainment industry for her future. It is always good to have other options.
Stay cool Emma.
If Emma shows some faults in the future, so be it- welcome to being human.

Coppola wants to shoot bling in the spring, the Hilary semester is from 15. Januarary to 10.March. The Trinity semester starts 22. April to 16. June. I have a friend who is doing an oxford year, and another friend a Cambridge year. So emma would have time to shoot bling between hilary and Trinity Semester- so between 10.March to 22. April.
That will be great. If I lived in LA, I would visit the studio. So much talent.
Ano.

Coppola's movies are always critiques, this movie won't big up the bling ring members it will use them to show whats wrong with society and it's obsession and money, they won't be glorified in the slightest. She always makes thought provoking movies which divide opinion and I'd imagine this won't be any different. She also gives really meaty roles to young women in her movies so this is a great step for Emma.

A great step for Emma indeed. I am really interested to find out who will be cast alongside Ms. Watson. But I am very interested in how Watson develops forward in her career and with other talents. This young woman seems well-rounded- and what a great role to play a character with whom the watcher sees certain realities- positive or negative through the talent of performance.

It would be great if Bonnie Wright got a part alongside Emma. Rupert Grint would make a great thief.

It would be great if people could get over not seeing the HP actors in movies together.

You're right Eden. It was just a quick thought to the announcement. The brain latches very quickely to old connections. But anyway, I believe Emma will do very well in this movie. I truly respect Sofie Capolla as a director and see some interesting talent luring from Emma that keeps one interested.
