Emma Watson to play in Your Voice in My Head?

We first had a clue about it during an interview of David Yates when he said:
“I’ve got a really great script for Emma Watson. I just have her voice in my head for this part, an amazing role and she’ll knock it out of the park.”
Deadline reports now:
Warner Bros is negotiating to acquire Your Voice in My Head, the Emma Forrest-scripted drama based on the scribe’s memoir that is expected to be the next film by director David Yates. The film is shaping up to be a Harry Potter reunion. Yates is in discussions with Emma Watson to star in the role of a young woman who attempts suicide before being saved by a New York-based psychiatrist who’s dying of cancer. Watson and Yates worked together on the last four Harry Potter films. Warner Bros has made it a priority to get right back in business with Yates. The studio offered him its script Imitation Game, but Yates didn’t bite and the studio is putting together a list of directors I’m told includes Ralph Fiennes and Bryan Singer. As for the lead male role in Your Voice in My Head, the studio is aiming high, with names like Tom Hanks and George Clooney in the mix. Yates is expected to make this film before he does A Reliable Wife at Sony. Watson is repped by WME, Yates by CAA.

That would be a fantastic collaboration and I do hope Emma gets to do it, I want to see her in more films or stage work rather than the modelling side of things.

It seems like a project that would fit nicely over her last summer holiday!

(And @GoldenGemster- I suspect we will just have to be patient while we wait for the ratio to switch. While she is still in school, modeling is a much smaller time commitment and still keeps her face out there. I'm just glad she has what it takes to keep on working at all while she is at uni! But the countdown has started- we are so close to a full-fledged movie career! =D )

Wow! I hope that Emma will join this film. This can also help show her acting skills and I'm confident that she can pull it off.

How about NO...

wow, that would be really interesting...but even though I like Emma, I´m not very fan of her acting skills...she has that style like she played Hermione and I saw it in MWWM too.......so I´m not sure she would be good in that role, but maybe she will surprise us. I wish her luck.

Book is a best seller and is great, moving, hard hitting and very witty. The author who has also written the screenplay has retweeted the news on her twitter, so I'd say it's pretty much confirmed.
This would be a wonderful role for Emma, really great.
Personally I didn't see any Hermione whatsoever in MWWM, she was totally believable in the role, I was pleasantly surprised. I think she'll get better again in Perks.

Not sure about this. Yates and WB, both to do with Harry Potter. I can see why People are saying "Harry Potter Reunion"

I would like if Emma would choose Directors who she didn't work with it so far, it's a Experience Thing. Also not always WB now (Beauty and Beast is also WB) No Offence for WB though

I'm not sure Emma thinks about who produce the movies she's proposed or else. She probably only chooses in relation to her tastes and uni schedule.

That would be a very interresting role for Emma! plus, if she gets to play along a wonderful male actor like George Clooney of Tom Hanks, that would be awesome (and very helpful for her to develop as an actress!)

I really hope she does it! When will we know?

Emma Forrest said, some days ago I think, Yates will be the one to confirm who will play her but she also said in December that she already knew who would so I think it pretty much confirms that it's Emma Watson.

Yes I know that, I also know WB is the Main Reason for much reporting of this now, I also know Uni is more important for her than anything else now or she wouldn't study. But like I said it's a Experience Thing. There are british Productions I like more tbh. Well I just don't want her to work with Yates again, at least not so soon. This will have to much Harry Potter Comparing and to much People out there who think Yates is in love with Emma (seriously it's weird). But I'm generally not really exited hearing about Books being filmed by Yates.

I don't know what Career Emma will have or how it will go, but let's say she must know at least what she is doing. So whatever will happen, it will happen.

I knew it was this movie! When Yates says "I have her voice in my head" it was a pretty obvious clue ;) Lainey gossip was one of the first blog to mention this rumor, a month ago.

If she signs on this movie, it's kinda reminds me of natalie portman career's path (post stars war) and emma said she admires her.
As Emma, Natalie was a child star and the female lead in a big serie with stars war and she puts her career on hold to go to an ivy league. She had a little part in cold mountain, a period movie produced by the weinstein company with oscars nominations for the leads (as emma in my week with marylin).
Then she had a role in a quirky little indie: garden state and emma is in the upcoming perks of being a wallflower.
And finally she played a grown up role as a stripper (or a lost girl) and was nominated for a golden globe and an oscar. And the role of emma frost sounds like an award worthy role to me. (And then Natalie played in a scfi and darker movie, v for vendetta, and emma is rumored to play in beauty and the beast).

So, what's next for emma? She will play a crazy person and have a lesbian scene with another hot young actress? Lol. I know a lot guys who wouldn't mind it ;)

I think it's a great challenge for her if everything works out. I know a lot of people will focus on the Yates/Watson tag team again, it's the big shiny thing in the room, but this script is really a good opportunity to show the world what she really can do. From the sound of it, everything is still in the early stages and still could fall through, but if it all works out I think a role like this could push her up that Hollywood ladder.

Think the anon who is just focusing on it being another Yates movie is really missing the bigger picture, this will be a totally different role to anything she's done before, it'll be a big career move and a real chance to show her acting. I don't think many people will overthink them working together again it's pretty normal, lots of actors work repeatedly with directors, there's nothing weird about it, Peter Jackson likes working with Saoirse Ronan and Steve Spielberg with Dakota Fanning. She'll get huge experience with this role and she is working with different directors, Simon Curtis and Steven Chbosky and next will after your voice in my head will probably will Guillme Del Toro so she's mixing it up plenty. What's important for her now is good roles and this is one.

It's a bit more than early stages, Emma Forrest has pretty much confirmed it on her twitter. I don't think that anyone will bat an eyelid or see anything negative at Emma and David Yates working together again as the project couldn't be more different from Harry Potter, it will be a completely different movie with Emma playing a totally different part. The industry is pretty small and people work together if it suits them, why wouldn't they. I expect Dan and Rupert to work with him again in the not too distant future, it just happens that he currently has a great script for Emma where she can really show her acting chops. This is a great opportunity for her, the book is brilliant.

Whilst they are mentioning HP reunion pretty much every blog or movie site I've seen is also talking about how different it will be to HP and how challenging it will be for Emma. Nobody is saying it in a "oh here we go she's working with Yates again" or "she's playing it safe" way most are seeing it as being a big adult role where she can show what she's got. I think Emma is very slowly and steadily building a good career for herself and this will be great for her. I think some potter fans who are only familiar with Yates potter work do him a disservice, some of his pre potter stuff is great! He's very good at dramas and in particular at developing characters.

Wow, I didn't thought they would want someone so big like tom hanks and georges clooney. Maybe it's means they are pretty confident with the material and it could be a prestigious movie (with award buzz). Strangely, it don't imagine her with someone like george clooney (I know he has starred with several young actresses like shailene woodley and anna kendrick), but I can picture someone like Tom Hanks. Or Ralph Fiennes, stanley tucci would be good IMHO. I love the choice they made for cinna in the upcoming hunger games, I never pictured lenny kravitz but I love this choice now.

Now, the book is brillant so she better be good to do justice to the story. The problem is that she has never carried a movie and played a role like this. There is always a beginning but with a book like this, the expectations are pretty high, so I hope she doesn't overact and she has more range than she seems to have. Because there are a lot of better young actresses (also british) in her age range. And I would have loved to see someone like carey mulligan or felicity jones (they are maybe too old now) or Mia Wasikowska (who is a better actress) because you know they can deliver (and we don't know about emma for the moment).

And I know that with a role like hermione in blockbuster she couldn't show how much she is talented (or not). But I always think that a good actor/ actress don't have to play the biggest or the flashier role to prove that he/she is talented. Like Emma Stone: she was good in easy A, you could see she can act and has a great screen presence even if the movie has a lot of flaws and it wasn't that great. She totally made the movie whereas with a limited actress (and Disney star) like Emma Roberts, Vanessa Hudgens... it would have been just another silly teen movie.
Even if I love Emma, a more talented young actress would have been a better hermione.

If David Yates really wants to make this an award winning movie, then just as important as Emma getting the lead female role, he needs to get Morgan Freeman to play the doctor. The guy is so damn good, he's played God twice! lol In all seriousness though, I do like the idea of them going after a big time name for the doctor. If (and I will keep saying if until confirmed) Emma get's the part, imagine what she could learn to better her craft if she is working with a Hanks, Clooney, even a guy like Dan Aykroyd.

Anonymous said...

Freeman would unfortunately be too old for doctor. I think Emma is a very very capable actress with great potential, I thought she was the perfect Hermione (especially in both DHs) but could do a meaty part justice. She's off to a very good post potter start and is lining up great roles, solid performances now for a few movies (I don't mind if it's not wow just solid) and she'll be away...

I love the idea of Emma doing a movie like this, especially if they get an award winning actor to play the doctor, but the only problem I have is that Emma is way too happy and perky.

Emma is a good actress. She's not brilliant, she's good bordering on great. Yeah, a lot of people say she isn't, or say she's a horrible Hermione-that's because the books came out first and everyone has their own "Hermione" in their heads.

Anyway, to play a suicidal character, Emma needs to take her emotions to a very dark and dreary place. In order to play the character good, she'd need to do a lot of training and work with a lot of people in order to play a dark and disturbed character.

Can she do it? I don't even know. She played the emotional scenes in Harry Potter very well, especially in DH1 and DH2. But, this character sounds 100x worse than "Hermione upset."

I've started reading the book based on this news, and it's hard to see how this can be adapted into a coherent film.... But with Emma in the lead, I'll be in the cinema.

That said, I just googled Emma Forrest, and saw that the kind, loving boyfriend she rhapsodizes about in the book is Colin Farrell. If I have to watch Emma sucking face with Colin Farrell, or a reasonable facsimile thereof, I'll need an extra popcorm bucket to throw up in.

Forrest is suicidal but she's actually a very quirky character. A lot of her observations in the book are very funny, it has very dark parts but it's not all like that, she's very in love at one point. So yes she'll have to take it far further than Hermione, the character self harms but it's not all really disturbed. A lot of it is quite touching and moving. As you said she was very good at the emotional scenes in HP, those were her best in my opinion.

Anonymous said...

I love how people say Emma is an Okay actress even if she only did Hermione + a little but very good part in MWWM. Wait for Perks and the few next one. After that, if she's just okay, we'll know it. but for now it is just as if she had just got out of drama school.

Harry Potter was a (very good) drama school, and now the real work begin. I'll let her... let's say 3 movies to rate her talent level.

But this script seems so good, it could be very nice if she did it.

tbh as someone mentioned it that Rupert and Daniel could also work with Yates again, I'm not sure if I even want this for them.

Also no Offence for the big Love for Emma and I don't want to sound rude, but I don't see Emma as the Hollywood Ladder in the near Future or in the Future. I don't even see her as a Hollywood Star and I'm not sure if she even want's to be one. Same goes for everyone in HP tbh. I don't know why People care so much for this. This is the less important Thing for them right now. You can have Success everywhere and the Job acting doesn't exist to get known in Hollywood or whereever

I agree with Kristin above. The Character is nothings like "Hermione upset", experience is very important and I would like to see Emma fighting for something and not just getting everything. This would also proof a lot of her. Much more than Lancome or whatever.

I'm often put off by the way actors/actresses play a mentally ill person in a movie. If they have no perfect understanding on what it is like to have a mental illness. There is a very small line between giving a good performance and putting up a show and overdoing it. I hope she doesn't ruin it because this is def not an easy part. Guess we will have to wait and see when the trailer of this comes out.

Eden said...

The book is Forrest's memoir and she's the screenwriter so I think there's a good chance for her to give lots of advice to Emma for her to understand exactly what was going on in her head.
