Emma Watson in talks to play Ila in Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah' with Russell Crowe, Douglas Booth, and Logan Lerman

Deadline were the first ones to break the news:
Emma Watson is in talks to join Darren Aronofsky’s cast of Noah, which stars Russell Crowe as the Biblical ark builder. Watson is in discussions to play Ila, a young woman who develops a close relationship with Noah’s son, Shem. That role will be played by Douglas Booth, with Logan Lerman playing Noah’s other son, Ham. Still to be cast is Noah’s wife–Jennifer Connelly is one of the actresses in contention–and Noah’s nemesis. The film’s being co-financed by Paramount and New Regency.
Thefilmstage, Filmthrasher, and Variety added some informations:
The film will shoot in New York and Iceland this summer for a March 28th, 2014 release.
Judging by that plot synopsis, could Watson actually play the role of a sinner looking to take Shem off the devout path his father is pointing his family to?
While "Noah" doesn't start filming until August, [...]
Let's note that the 22nd of last month, Emma tweeted about following Darren Aronofsky on Twitter.

Emma as a sinner...wow

its interesting. previous reports said Logan's character Ham is the one getting a love interest. that has been changed to booth having the love interest. Its curious that in the original narrative, Ham is the one who falls from grace and is cursed by his father thus being the more weighty character than Shem.

I don't understand a few things. Can someone help me clarify the following:

1) In the Variety article, what film did they mean when they said it would be Dakota Fanning's "potentially biggest/best role in her career?" were they meaning Very Good Girls or Noah?

2) Is Emma officially playing the lead in Your Voice In My Head? I thought this was confirmed, only with a change of directors. But I thought it would begin filming in July or August, and Emma can't be in two places at once (no time turner now!) if she will indeed be filming Noah starting the end of July. I just don't see how she will be fitting in time to film Your Voice in my Head.

3) Didn't Emma confirm she is returning to Brown in September? I don't see how this is still possible if production on Noah begins in August and the first semester at Brown begins early September. Won't it take more than a month to film? Do you think Em will defer another semester of school again?

I'd appreciate some answers if you guys would be kind enough. Thanks!

1) the role in Noah could have been her greatest role

2) the status for YVIMH is unclear. It was due to shoot in June

3) Emma's University stuff is her business. Defer or make arrangements. It is her career. Who would pass up this role?

Also keep in mind that we don't really know if Emma completed her third term at Oxford or not and in order to get credit for it she has to. Since the third term is primarily a research term and not actual classes, it might be possible to complete that term starting in October. I do wish though she would clear this up cause I'm confused too.

I'm not sure how she'll put it in her schedule but it sounds great. I'd love to see her in it.

"Could Watson actually play the role of a sinner..." Yes, back then eating your food the wrong way or not praying was a sin, so not every sin is scandalous. Although I woulnd't say no to a scandalous role haha.

Why did she ever have to put education on such a high shelf when it does seem second rate again. With all the projects and Noah beginning in August it is almost impossible for her to start brown in September. So in January another great role will come up- so defer again. I actually doubt now that she will finish her education- but it is her business. But she just bragged early on on how important education was to her. I am truly a fan. But these are moments when she seems really inconsistent. Bonnie Wright has finished her education without any interuptions and now got a plum role in Shakespeare's dauthter.

TO ANON ABOVE...she talked about her education when she was asked the same in thousands of interviews she did...so she dint brag.IM VERY IMPRESSED THAT SHE MAINTAINED SO MUCH OF PRIVACY DESPITE OF SO MUCH MEDIA COVERAGE

I think anon for 2.38 is right, before she first started brown, she said that education was most important for her and wouldn't interrupt for a role. She just wanted to be normal. At that time I did think- good for you, but I wonder how long that will hold upright-3 semesters.

Chris, could she start in October then and go to brown in January? Or must she attend Trinity Term in April til June? This is really a weird way to study. She mentioned once that she would like to go beyond a BA, but at this rate...

Yes, Emma's first priority was her education when she first started at Brown but I think when she did 'Perks' she really fell in love with acting and knew that's what she truly wanted to do. It's understandable that it is difficult to find time for two things she really cares about (school and acting) and requires a lot of sacrifice. I think she is doing a great job getting education and acting into her schedule. Either way, it's none of our business what she decides when it comes to her education. She's a very clever girl and I think she'll do great things in her career and life.

Face it people...Emma is a young & neive..i have always said it even during filming of HP..Emma NEVER tasted desperate and i bet you that she think school is boring.I love her to death but what is happening to Emma is that she's starting to become a hollywood star instead of a that little girl from HP.it's like an addiction to being famous.Happenes to all celebs.Emma may finish school anyway because she's rich....she can get away w/ cutting a few corners here & there.....Remember,do what you love in life and to me,Emma loves the spotlight. And i think she now realizes that school is boring & lame....She's has to eat her words from the past but like said, neive.School is important ONLY for the poor, not the rich:(

Actually she doesn't need a good education to be a mediocre actress and make a lot money. But the truly great actors and actresses have a good education: meryl Streep, pierce brosnan, haley joel osment, ann hathaway, sandra bullock, julie roberts. An education in literature is just a stepping stone to good acting. Try acting in Death of A Salesman without understanding stream of consciousness. A few that pull good acting off because they are truly gifted are few: dustin hoffman, johnny depp.
Education is also for anyone who doesn't want to be mediocre.

She can get her degree in her own time over the next few years, it's better that she enjoys it and can spend enough time at it to get good grades rather than how quick she does it. So far she's managed to juggle her education and her acting without either suffering which is quite a feat. If she defers it for a while I don't see what the problem is, for the first year and a half at brown she pretty much deferred her career. She's balancing it. She made the comments about school coming first before she had really experienced acting outside HP and I think she's realized she only has a shortish time frame to establish herself post potter. She's getting roles with amazing directors so it's only smart she takes them. Brown will be there when she has time, she can continue to juggle it, as long as she's doing well with both what does it matter. If it takes another few years to get a good degree AND have a great career then that's be everything extremely well played. She's on track for that.

Again with every project , discussion of school come !!!

People her education is hers not yours ! You must care for her career and discuss the great rols she has received and be excited !!

No doubt emma loves school and want to complete her study but what happened is that she has received a great opportunities to improve her acting to the best ,

She can complete her study any time but those great roles can't offer all the time ! So she wouldn't let them as she can ,

Really if I was in her place I wouldn't car at all to attempt school as she does !! She is amazing .

Emma doesn't have to finifh school in 4 years, she's rich....Sne'll probabley be done by by the time she's 26...She said school was important to her but let's be real,School is more important for you and i....she will finish but whenever she feels like it

@CutiePie32
I don't think any of us are in the position to say if school is important for Emma or not. It's strictly her own choice. And it makes no sense to say that school is only important to "poor" people.

Whoa, good cast! If this is true, I'm looking forward to seeing Emma in this. The movie sounds very interesting. I like her pairing with Logan, I think they have good chemistry.

I'm so happy to see her getting all of these movie roles. Like many have said, she could finish her schooling anytime she wants. If she wants to have a continuous career in Hollywoood, then she has to switch her priorities and hold of school a little more. It looks like she's doing just that. I think it's the best thing for her right now.

Emma Watson filming in Iceland. Normally, I'd be very excited to see her filming in such an odd location. The thing is, that location is so odd, we probably won't get any paparazzi pics of her on set. Unless there is a very brave paparazzo who's willing to go there.

coslopus " you are a true fan , great we must be like that excited for her new roles instead of worried whether she would complete her study or not!!!!!

agree with 5:25 anon above. However, I'm doubting whether she will ever go back to brown. The class she entered with will be seniors this fall and graduating next spring. If Emma goes back to brown, probably probably spring 2013 at the earliest, the entire student body will have virtually changed. Her older friends will all be gone and her friends in her class ready to graduate. I remember she said it took her a year to fully trust people there, and she would basically have to start all over again on that front, factoring in that she is arguably more famous now than in 2009 when she entered.

Mark my words:Emma will NOT return to Brown.Even though she said she would.

I agree with Cutie Pie. I think she will probably finish her degree at Oxford. Their BA is in 3 years. Most of her credits will transfer, and then she will have won a year. I also don't think she will return to brown. The American BA is too demanding : 4 to 5 years and you have to be present at the seminars, and after each course an exam. But I do believe that she will complete her education some how.

I hate the idea that if you are rich you don't have to go to uni. So only the people who must struggle through life go to uni, and the rich and the seemingly privileged and languish in stupidity. With this attitude I see H.G. Wells TIME MACHINE, the older version, coming true. The privileged become life infantile little children and let the Morlocks bring them fruit, and when the Morlocks are hungry, the sound the gong and the infantiles come to be fodder.

Emma landed a major role in a major film and all these comments are about college. Seriously!

Anonymous said...

Well it is a bit disturbing that people think that rich celebrity don't need education. I think the time machine is hilarious. I was a bit surprised to read it, but hey, consider what we often make fun of with actresses and actors- duh- F...K, dude, is the extent of some vocabulary.

Gross that most comments here about college instead the main subject !!!! she has a great role with a great director !!! and you tend to discuss her school ! Really o_O

You mustt be excited for her new role and wishing her all the best with it .

Actually, that's not the way Oxford works. Every subject she has taken that wasn't English Literature isn't accounted for if she transferred to Oxford. If she wants a degree in English AND history, then she's looking at at least an extra year at Oxford. There are no gen eds like in the US, it's very specialised (which is why the degree is a year less). I've had a look at her mentions of subjects from a quick Google search - the first semester of her first year she took acting, European women's history and Ovid, none of which fits into English Literature; she apparently took a subject called 'psychology of love' (according to Vogue) and an art class as well as another unknown class. The average number of courses per term at Brown is 3 (they have no gen eds, they have this odd build-your-own major thing, so they study less courses). She was there for three semesters, so that's 9 subjects; 5 are accounted for a being non-major related, so even if we presume they are all Eng Lit subjects, she still loses credits if she shifts to Oxford.
