Linda Woolverton: "Emma Watson is amazing and a perfect Belle"

Linda Woolverton was a playwright and author when she got her start with Disney, writing 1991’s era-defining hit Beauty and the Beast, and since then has written Disney standouts like The Lion King, Maleficent, and Alice in Wonderland. This weekend brings Alice Through the Looking Glass, her first sequel, and next year marks another huge landmark: the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, based on the characters she created more than 20 years ago. Vanity Fair caught up with Woolverton to talk about her thoughts on Emma Watson as Belle, her record-breaking career, and some of the burning questions about Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King that the Internet just can't let go of.

Beauty and the Beast will have a live-action adaptation next year. What will it be like for you to see Belle come to life, as portrayed by Emma Watson, after all these years?

I haven’t seen it yet but I think that’s fantastic. I absolutely think she is amazing and a perfect Belle, really. I thought it was a great casting choice. It was my first-born child, so there’s a little bit of possessiveness, which really I had to let it go. So it’s probably good for me not to have seen it just yet and just see it when it’s all done and all pretty and perfect and that’s exciting.

Emma is perfect to be beautiful , both are intelligent, independent, and love to read, and I'm sure she doing about a great role, after seeing The Bling Ring and Noah, I was not sure of Emma talent, but after to see Cologne, I am more convinced Emma's talent, she has improved her performance, although I saw some sign unnatural before the camera, she has definitely improved
and I have a feeling that Beauty and the Beast will be amazing and Emma as belle, it will be fantastic :)

She will bring the beauty and the spirit to Belle.

I hope, she will be singing the Songparts with her own voice and not replaced by a professional singer. Regardless if her intonation is perfect or not.

That is the plan and how could you doubt she would not be pitch perfect :)

Because, nobody is perfect! ;-)

Linda Woolverton: "Emma Watson is amazing and a perfect Belle"

I know not my normal evidential approach but my argument here is an emotional one and we can have a little fun Em's bringing the magic back:)

Hi! I have read in tumblr, in a blog about Emma, comments of people meet to Emma (premieres, street, university) and They say Emma is a "diva" and rude, it is true?

There are a few comments like that (majority from around 2003 though I think), but the huge majority of people who met her say good things about her. I doubt anyone who knows her personally would ever come on this blog though so it's impossible to know for sure.

I looked into this and there lots of anecdotal evidence nothing definative; I would say the ones where people have met her themselves said good things ones where "a friend of a friend" where the negative reports appear.

Also for control purposes I looked up other actresses in the same manner and same basic pattern emerged it seems being famous is the issue.

Living in London I have met a few famous people over the years and they have all been just people really generally if you are polite and treat them with respect they are the same with you.

I did actually work as a actor for an advert once as a performer and when we were not on set it cost money so they moved a line of 300 people to let four of us get to the lunch table and waited until we were out of the way and happy before letting people queue again. We were not asked about that it just happened.

Now the money involved with movies is as we know is extreme and having the stars on set and ready is a major expense I would imagine if you are carrying a picture the pressure would be considerable and even daunting.

Also there was an incident on the movie Noah where a man tricked security and got to Emma. That may have spooked a bit. She hired a female body guard after that for when she is on set.

Of course if I every get the chance to meet Emma I will report back with definitive information :)

Just a couple of things: the Noah story is false, Emma said it herself. And she has her bodyguard since 2005. MIGHT be since the story about a fan/stalker coming to her school, but I can't remember well and I'm too lazy right now to look it up, so I might be making something up here XD

Emma is known for being especially nice to kids, as we've seen on many accounts.

Other than that, gossip about celebrities is useless. It's not likely any of us would ever know Emma on a personal level, so we will never know for sure.

Could be Eden and Annon, I read the Noah thing was where she got the female security but that is the problem everything is anecdotes what is apocryphal what is not only thing for sure is other actresses have the same issue pick one at random and have a look.

I think on balance she is a normal woman despite an abnormal life (achievement in itself) but my option is hardly unbiased we must all take it upon ourselves to meet Emma at some point and see!

She is sharpening her acting chops, that is clear from Colonia. She did a good job, with a few unnatural lines, where I think she just thinks about it too much that it is not her natural mode of communication and being. To be a truly good actor she has to overcome this obstacle.

she is a consummate actress always has been.
