Emma Watson tipped for main role in 'Maestra'

Oxbridge author Lisa Hilton arrived fashionably late at the do and wasted no time in updating partygoers on the development of her own novel Maestra, which tells the story of art expert Judith Ashleigh adventures across Europe after she is forced to go on the run. With the tome, the first in a trilogy, already proving to be a bestseller — though failing to please all the critics — a film adaptation is on the way. Hilton confided to Miss S that scriptwriter Erin Cressida Wilson — who also penned the screenplay Girl On The Train and Secretary — is currently staying at her flat while she gets to work.

Alas those hoping for a movie to rival Fifty Shades of Grey will be left disappointed. ‘Yes there will be sex, but the story is not as erotic as people make it out to be,’ Hilton explained. ‘Anyone who compares it to Fifty Shades needs to get out more.’

So, who will play the book’s seductive — if deadly — heroine? ‘It’s early stages but we’ve talked about some surprising people,’ Hilton says of her discussions with film producer Amy Pascal, the former Sony exec. ‘Amy thinks Emma Watson would be great, but there’s also a Scottish actress called Joanna Vanderham, who isn’t very well known but I think would fit the bill, and a French actress called Stacy Martin too.’

Alas Hilton admits it won’t be up to her to make the final call; ‘the decision is with the studio. They are polite enough to pretend to care about me but in the end they really don’t.’ Still, given that Hilton is currently letting film staff live in her flat, Miss S hopes that she is rewarded with some say.

I must admit I've never heard of this novel, but a quick search brings up reviews which state "..sends the idea of female emancipation back to the 19th century'. (The Guardian), "..a pornographic shopathon travelogue.." (NY Times) and "(the heroine)starts out on her path towards success on the arm of a sugar daddy, accepting Chanel purses for sex".(BBC)

Somehow those reviews don't scream a role that EW would be particularly interested in, plus she would presumably have to sign up for the trilogy.
The producer may consider EW suitable for the lead role, I'd be surprised if Emma was of the same opinion.

I sincerely doubt Emma would want anything to do with the film. Remember her response to the false rumors about her being connected to 50 shades of grey? "As if I would ever do that!", or something to that effect.

Going by the synopsis alone, it sounds exceptionally poor as a work of literature. As a work of erotic fiction it sounds like it probably does its job, for those who find things like power, manipulation, and murder erotic. But I lack any desire to read it and find out for sure.

gI certainly hope not! She can get better roles and give goodness to the human spirit.

I hope she does Queen of Tearling with David Heyman. After reading the first two books, I think it would be great if she played the role of Kelsea and Lilly.
There has been some comments on her age, but I think that is fine, as long as she is a young woman in her 20's. Johannseon, I think, just wanted to stay on the edge of the character still being a teen to justify it being a YA.
I love the films David Heyman has produced in Heyman films. This would be a great collaboration for a good book.
I hope she does not do Maestro.

YES to Queen of the Tearling. I still have hopes for it. And I don't think Emma would have any problem passing for a 19yo if she has long hair (I feel shorter makes her look more her age). I just wish someone would just drop a little word to let us know where they are in the project. Is it even still going or was it dropped? We don't know anything.

I think the most of us hope she does Tearling. I know she wants to do adult roles, but by no means does she have to sell herself cheap in raunchy films. Beasts will be beautiful tribute to the human spirit. The Circle is kind of a satire, done well it could be golden. I am certainly glad the role Francis is not played in the film; I thought him immature and disgusting, and just the thought of Emma playing up to him in the film would have gone out to get a glass of wine during that scene.

I do find it odd some of the types of role producers particularly seem to connect to Emma. Firstly I have never seen her react favorably to such methods and like has been said the role of ingenue is something she has never done or ever it seemed wanted to.

The circle will be interesting as the story does allow for some flexibility in Emma's character is Splayed and she will be an interesting mix with Tom Hanks.

It is annoying Queen of the Tearing has not progressed that would be cool.

I am glad that she does not give herself to cheap stuff. If she really wants to build into a good actress, she should work in roles where her intlligence is asked for and she is forced to stretcher herself emotionally and get out of her head. She is good, and I believe she can be better, but she needs to do it, but every bad actress is in a sex film- no big deal.

..but not many good ones, not sure about that. We shall see, Emma has made brave choices in the past.

If the role calls for it I'm sure she would she has nothing to be ashamed of after all, Noah had an sex scene in it she did that admirably. Sex is like any other emotion and can be portrayed well or not.
