Emma Watson promotes #FromWhereIStand

Take part in the World’s Largest Lesson during the week of
18th September 2016

In September 2015 World Leaders committed to the Global Goals for Sustainable Development. 17 goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things in the next 15 years. End extreme poverty. Fight inequality and injustice. Fix climate change. To realise these Goals everyone, however young they are, needs to take part. So join our movement, teach young people about the Goals and encourage them to become the generation that changed the world.

WORLD'S LARGEST LESSON 2016 : FOCUS ON GOAL 5 GENDER EQUALITY

This year we invite you to focus on Goal 5: Gender Equality with a lesson and a cross curricular project that enables students to contribute to the Global Goals right now.

Everything you need is in the lesson plan HERE including an introduction to the Global Goals if you are joining The World’s largest Lesson for the first time.

Emma has the best intention, but women in the Middle East are not treated equally. They have all the possible jobs men have, being doctors, lawyers, professors, that is not the issue. Rather cultural issues have to be addressed for true gender equality. Gender equality is not just have a pay equal job, but also it is respect for the woman and man toward one another at all levels. In the Middle East gender equality is a tough issue. So the question is how does Emma look to speak about this issue?
By th way, I liked her talk, and as a whole everything is true in the Western World, but not traveling East.

She is asking for input (data) on gender equality across the globe as it stands now to asses the situation and frame a response that matches particular needs. It a step she is not proposing a blanket (or any other at this point) cure.

and incidentally I have spoken to Women from Africa and the middle east it is there just in a different form given the limitations you highlight Anon.

this is silly - so you'll get to the point of having half and half by some stupid quota yet the best person for the job should be seen as sexless no?

encourage woman to take on these careers but don't go down this 50/50 crap.

Even if it is cultural Ross, women do suffer in these countries even if they do have equality of profession. The woman is subject to the man. If the woman is a particular woman si willing to live like that, but it is not a choice one has. Marrying outside of religious affiliation of culture can mean death. Here in Germany, there have been news reports over the years of young women that were killed by family members because they dated a boy (a German) outside of their culture. These are hard facts. Young women of the Middle East or African countries living in Europe, juggle two worlds, trying to fit into the idea of western choice and Eastern marriage and dating traditions. It is tough, and it can be dangerous if a young woman wants something else.
I think these are the gender issues that should be pursued. For most of the women of the Middle East, especially those living in Europe and maybe the USA, gender equality is a dream.

it's a dream until people work together and make it real 200 years ago women in the west where chattel possession now they are close to being equal. Having more accurate and dependable information is a good first step. Particularly as it is being done on a global scale.

Been doing my home work the initiative also contains a lesson plan for 8-14 year old about what is being done. It is really inspiring actually positive action or the beginnings at least.

I agree Ross that we have come a long way through education, and that should continue. The lesson plan is good. Lastly one can only hope to raise awareness, and hope for a conversion of heart of the singular person who refuses to accept the rights of the other person.

Her face is beautiful but changing, taking on that adult look and more experience in life.

Is there any word on whats her next film. I saw a screening of Hacksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson- in my opinion one of the best directors out there. All of his directed films were winners even this Passion film. I would love to see Emma in a Mel Gibson film, now that would be a film school worthy experience.
I just want to hear some more film news.
But looking at the HEforShe her interview with Forest Whittaker was excellent, although Forest was much more signaled to his endeavor and focused on his charitable gender projects. Emma refocused on herself on when she was 18 and the photographers photographed up her skirt. I was embarrassed to how poor her information in compared to Forrests. I mean okay, Whittaker is a much more mature person and years more of experience. He was brilliant though.
I would love to see Emma and Forest in a Mel Gibson film together.

Emma always interviews well and I am not sure where you get that Emma was less informed on Gender Equality that Forest. He like all us feminist men can sympathise and try to help, Emma a woman experiences the disparity, like the examples she sites often as do many other women.

I suspect Mel might be a difficult choice no doubting his talent but his record on equality issues is less than outstanding.

Maybe I expressed myself incorrectly, but in this interview Forest Whittaker seemed more informed about real thinks happening to help: projects and so forth.
Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster are very good friends. I don't Mel has anything against women's equality, he just got mixed up with the same woman Timothy Dalton had.
Mel is one of the best directors in Hollywood. Everyone of his directed films reached the above average criticim and won oscars in some way. All I am saying to work with Mel would truly be film school quality.

" I was embarrassed to how poor her information in compared to Forrests" What do you mean with this?

She reminded everyone that everyone got to see a bit of her fur, which was forgotten. I think she could have given a more intelligent exambple of experience with the media. Media is not just paps.

Given the casual sexisim of your comment anon think the point was well made and still relevant. Not to mention she was 15 when this happened.
