Alan Menken "Emma Watson is Belle for me now entirely"

Alan Menken (composer of the music for the original 'Beauty and the Beast' and also the live-action) talked about Emma in a new interview:

She’s really good! I can’t picture anyone else, honestly. She’s Belle for me now entirely,” Menken told EW when asked about Watson as the film’s spirited, book-loving heroine.

His excitement continued with the rest of the cast, including Stevens (“of course, he spends a lot of the movie with a lot of fur covering him but he’s great”), Ewan McGregor and Ian McKellen as Lumière and Cogsworth, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Luke Evans as Gaston (“fantastic – what a revelation”), Josh Gad as LeFou, Audra McDonald as Garderobe, and Kevin Kline as Belle’s father, Maruice. “The cast is just a dream cast, it’s ridiculous,” he added.

This marks the third time Menken has done Beauty work – the original film, the Broadway adaptation, and now the new film – but this time around, he was happy to take cues from director Bill Condon.

“It’s exciting. For me because I’m writing the new songs and scoring the new movie, it’s a lot of work,” he laughed. “It’s interesting and it’s challenging to come back to the same source material three times. And in this case I’m really taking my lead – I am bearer of the flame to a degree, but I want to be as good a team member with Bill Condon as I can be. So I’m really taking my lead from him as a director, and he’s doing a great job.”

I am so happy to hear that from Menken; I am truly looking forward to seeing Emma as Belle, and I am waiting for the treat to hear her sing.Ponsoldt said in an interview a while back that she was very good. As for the book club and feminism, I think its useless in that form. I believe she is an intelligent and sensitive young woman, but she needs to decide where she is going to leave her energy. Feminism- there are enough out there doing their personal business in a public way.
Referring to her acting, Emma has played in meaningful films, other than Regression. That film was certainly regressed as was every character, something was missing.
I would love for her to make good film, for that is what she said she wanted to be. I think (from the way she has presented herself) Emma tends to go to extremes and wants to lap up all the honey that oozes forth. That is nice for a while but at the end she is not working on her talents. Presenting good, meaningful films as producer, director and actress is an art and helpful or destructive to the human spirit.
By no means is this a criticism of Emma, but I think she is running herself too thin.
Why does anyone have to bring up the book club and tax avoidance from this praise of Emma's role?

Annnnnnd let's start over. Beauty and the Beast!! Yay!

I don't know about the trailer, but I think Cinderella's was released around November.

That would follow the Patten used for Cinderella. Don't remember any of the "back stage" stuff for that, which is cool 😎 actually. I like the slow build up.

Well done Eden.

Thanx for blocking those trolls Eden!
About Beauty and the beast, his excitement (and mine) continues to grow! Alan Menken is a veteran in his industry so he knows what he's talking about when he says Emma's greaaaaat! feel very thrilled to hear him say it. Loved his work on Tangled,Aladdin,Little Mermaid and of course beauty and the beast!

roses are red violets are blue, Emma has the flu and so do you, now delete me too.

Emma is awesome so proud of her x

I mean, this is better, but unless you keep deleting off-topic rambling and trolling or enact another solution, it's just going to happen again. I'll have to repeat myself to the Angelina Jolie anon, and ignore the 1984 anon while other people take their bait.

For Emma and Beauty, I think people underestimate how HUGE this is! By all accounts, and given the popularity of Frozen, this really is shaping up to have the potential to become a modern classic.

Eden, do you know what ever happened to Beauty being tied to Guillermo del Toro? I don't see him mentioned anywhere anymore, but there had originally been accounts that Emma joined because it was associated with him.

This is SO exciting! And it's not only getting a great response from people who only saw the sneak peek, it's also getting an amazing response from the people who saw a screening. IcantwaitIcantwaitIcantwait.

I think Del Toro was working on at least 3 projects at once. I guess he had to give up on one and he picked B&B. I don't remember an official reason being given.

Thanks Eden. People needs to understend this os an Emma's fan blogspot!!! Cant wait for BatB!! Will be Huge!

Eden said...

I only deleted the comments because they were repetitive and that this is an article about B&B. I have nothing against people who want to say why they don't agree with Emma. Or with people who don't like what she's doing. I just want a bit of peace in some articles, especially when the articles are about movies and have nothing to do with her engagements or gossips.

RT said...

As long has you are equally supportive of those who agree with Emma deleted our comments too.

OMG thanks Eden dor deleting those comments, they are like 1 or 2 people trolling, saying random stuff about Emma and then responding to themselves xD

I'm also excited about BatB, I'm glad for the good response it's getting and for all the talented people working on it, I was a little bit worried about the CGI but I saw the Jungle Book and I hope they are doing the same with the beast and the objects.

Last thing I knew about the WB version of Beauty and the Beast is that Guillermo del Toro dropped the project for lack of time and said he was going to produce it.

I responded for myself I do not use anonymous accounts for the record Anon. Just to be clear.

Regarding del Toro, that's too bad. He did the same thing with the Hobbit iirc. Given his interest in old occult fiction, his take on both of those films would have been interesting to see. But perhaps it's better they're going with a more traditional approach to B&tB.

I quite liked that little bit of voice acting we got in the table read clip. I kind of wish Emma would just embrace the fantasy and children's/young adult literature roles. In so many of her other films, they just have her panicked or scared or crying, and I don't think that suits her as well as other roles. I also think she'd be good doing more voice acting. She can afford to be picky in her roles, though.

Okay, anons best to leave the field for pdxp and ross.

I think she should focus her attention on building up her resume. I liked how Regression turned out because I've been wanting to see her as a villain. Her role in The Circle seems somewhat villainous to me, as well. I think there should be a version of the Jekyll and Hyde story with a female lead and I'd love for Emma to be that lead. We've seen so much of the noble side of her already. I'd like to see the darker things I see in her brought out. She's got a lot of nobility of course but there's also a sly, smug, conniving under current there.

It really annoys me, all the time she's wasting on a worthless cause. It would be a shame if she sold out completely and quit to become a politician. There's only three things that move this world: the sciences, the arts and commerce. As for Beauty and the Beast, yeah looks great. It definitely broadens her skill set by having her sing and dance. It's been a long, long while since I've seen the original, so there isn't the anticipation factor there is for most of you. But I'll see it because she's in it.

Anonymous said...

Ross, I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about the Anon, I'm saying he/she is the same person responding to him/herself and then we all engage in this "conversation", for example, Anon says Emma is changing the world and then inmediately another Anon make a very angry response insulting her xD Isn't strange that someone says something really exagerated about Emma and then almost at the same time there is another Anon saying how that is exagerated and try to convince everyone that Emma is a horrible person? it's funny

Daff said...

PDXP I'm with you, as much as I love seeing Emma, I don't like seeing her cring all the time (Regression) I would love to see her as a villian :)

Daff said...

I mean, she's kind of a villian in Regression but I would like to see her as a reaaly bad and cruel person haha not just fake crying

Eden said...

I hope she'll be in Queen of the Tearling. Kelsea is so tough and apparently flirts with the dark side in the second, which I haven't read yet.

I'm worried about QotT, there's no news about this movie and 2017 is comming soon, I really want her to do thit, haven't read the books by I heard it's a very challenging role, if that doesn't work I want to see her as a bad or crazy woman xD

Eden said...

We need a remake of The Craft where she'll play Nancy XD

PDXP said...

RE: QotT, it's unfortunate this project got put on the back burner. I think Emma could still play the lead, I still see people on other sites saying she looks like a teenager all the time. Heck, Elizabeth Banks (42) just played a teenager recently - and though it was tongue-and-cheek, it also wasn't far off.

@anon 'Okay, anons best to leave the field for pdxp and ross."

Hey, my off-topic response to your comment was deleted too. As for "pdxp and ross", the only reason you recognize us is because we actually have usernames. I personally don't even post much, probably far less than you. Ross and I don't agree on everything either, but I appreciate that he's not here to troll, bring other people down or repeat the same bad 'arguments' about Emma over and over and over again.
