New interview of Emma Watson + new scene of 'The Circle'

The scene is really short. There are also interviews of Tom Hanks and John Boyega.

Hi Eden, do you know if Emma will go to the Met Gala this year?

Eden said...

No idea Daff. Haven't seen her name anywhere yet.

Anonymous said...

Circle is getting panned. 16% on RT plus audience reception is only 30%. Another Emma flop.

Anonymous said...

Yeah it only has a 5,5 rating on imdb, whereas Beauty and the Beast has a 7,7 rate. The reviews of her acting are not that positive. She is described as wooden in some spots. But the overall storytelling is criticized as a mess. You can find the reviews anywhere.

Anonymous said...

proves the point most of the audience didn't go and see Beauty because of Emma.

Daff said...

Thank you Eden, I hope she goes to the MTV movie awards

Ouch, The Circle is getting crushed right now on RT. One particular comment,

"The Circle proves that even the greatest actors can even end themselves in a mediocre film."

Still early though as its only opening weekend but off to a very rocky start.

RT said...

Any chance of doing me the courtesy of a reply Eden. What have I done to deserve bad manners?

""The Circle proves that even the greatest actors can even end themselves in a mediocre film."

Can't believe poor Tom Hanks is in this. Now he is affected with the Emma flop curse!

Anonymous said...

Of course, this is all Emma's fault. I mean, there is no other possible reason. At all. Whatsoever.

Anonymous said...

Its not all Emma's fault. Not sure why anyone would get that impression. From the reviews the issues all seem to range from poor acting from all of the actors to a very poorly executed script. A lot of the comparisons of the movie seem to be against the Netflix series "Black Mirror" (which is fantastic by the way) but not nearly as well executed as the series itself. I dont think this can be hung on just one person judging by the reviews so far even from those who somewhat liked it.

Next time you should wave a flag that reads "beware sarcasm ahead" :p

I love Emma! I've been following her since her first HP press conference (her in the purple shirt). I loved Hermione and I loved Emma playing her. But unfortunately her acting after Harry Potter has somehow never lived up to her playing Hermione.
And as much as I hate admitting it, just from what I saw in pre-released scenes from this movie, I wasn't impressed at all (especially the scene where she says she is going transparent). I also don't understand why they make her do an American accent. I personally don't think she can pull it off.
But I don't just want to bash her bacause I still admire her INSPITE of her (in my opinion) mediocre acting skills. Infact I love her outside of her acting job even more. (She's 1 year younger than me but I still look up to her).I love the work she does and the speeches she gives. I love her book club and her ethically sourced/ produced clothing and makeup. I would love to see more of that, and I hope we will do. She seems so sweet and kind, she takes care of herself, seems real down-to-earth, she went to university etc. That's what I love about Emma post HP.

Yes that would help save confusion with hate sites

Anonymous said...

I agree 100% with anon above. Emma, I believe is a young woman of excellent character, and I really want her to be successful, but if she wants to be an actress, she must begin to realize that she needs training. She is smart, and I loved the way she had helped form the modern Belle, and that film seems to be a success- which I believe would have been a success anyway. Her acting was not excellent but good. I hope she took some time this year to get some training in acting if that is her chosen career.

Anonymous said...

I dont view this place as a hate site at all so no confusion here. Having different opinions and discussion is healthy.

RT said...

Then why only negative and often personal comments. Got a challenge for you Anon have someone in you life who does not have a view of Emma and have them look at recent comments any thread.

Anonymous said...

There isnt just negative comments though, you apparently only see what you want to see. Sure, some people have some negative opinions but there are quite a few others who say some positive things. Even with your initial comment in this thread to the Anon you were addressing they had both positive and negative things to say. There is nothing wrong with that and it doesnt mean its hate.

The only thing i dont get is if you feel that this place is a hate site why do you keep coming back? For what its worth i actually know of a website that is dedicated to hating on Watson but i choose not to go there because of the negativity. But i dont get that same type of feeling here that i do at that place and i made a conscious choice to go there. So if you feel that this is a hate side why keep coming back?

If this site effects you so why bother coming here? I get it that you would want to see the photos or videos but why bother reading the comments if you dont feel they are positive enough for you? I think you have a hard deciphering what is just a different opinion (negative) versus actual hate. In this thread i have seen maybe 3 posts out of the 17 that would be deemed "hate" and chances are they could of came from the same person. That is a very low number.

Everything else stated in this thread has either been about something else or positive. I really dont understand your constant grief over this. Maybe just learn to ignore them so they dont bother you anymore? I really dont know what the best answer for you is here. Ive heard of other EW websites that dont allow any negativity at all even if its just honest criticism. So maybe that is something you would feel more comfortable with i dont know.

I agree that there are some trolls in the comments section here, although, like the previous Anon said, it could be the same person posting several messages. Wouldn't surprise me.

"Next time you should wave a flag that reads "beware sarcasm ahead" :p"

I wanted to add *eye roll* at first, but thought the sarcasm was obvious enough. My bad. XD

"I wanted to add *eye roll* at first, but thought the sarcasm was obvious enough. My bad. XD"

Actually, my comment was the one that followed yours. I got the sarcasm and i was only addressing some of the earlier comments that seemed to lay it at Emma's feet. So i apologize if you think i was trying to call your particular post out. That wasnt the case. :)

Daff said...

Yeah, there is a particular troll that keeps posting nonsense and responding to itself and if someone doesn't care too much and writes a completely unrelated comment, the troll comesback with more nonsense to start drama haha, it's a bit hilarious. I really want to talk about the Circle but it's a bit difficult with trolls. But there are some worth reading comments and it's obvious that not all the comments are trolling, it's just a little bit confusing when everyone choose to go "Anonymus" xD

No worries. ;)

Exactly! I don't want trolls on my blog but I'm never sure if some of the comments are honest opinions or people with way too much time in their hands.

^Now that would be deemed a trolling post. lol

Daff said...

I think if someone makes a smart criticism of Emma, that's clearly NOT a troll even if you don't agree with that comments. Now if someone just insults and says sarcastic comments and that it's just Emma's fault if a movie goes wrong, that's obviously a troll.

I would love to duscuss her movies over here but it's hard to do it this way, it would be so much better if it there was a forum, but I know it's already too much for you Eden :)

It kind of is, though. "The acting range of a teaspoon"? I mean, it's one thing to say that you think she's a bad actress, and another thing to constantly bash her and use these kind of comparisions. It sometimes feels like some people can't find anything good in her. They don't have to, they're allowed not to like her. I just don't understand the need to come here and post petty messages like these. Or just use any opportunity to complain. That's not objective criticism, at least to me.

Do I think Emma is the most talented actress of her generation? No. Do I think she got lucky when cast as Hermione? Yes. Yet, I'm not b*tching because she's still working in the industry. I say good for her.

There are people who like her, but are not necessarily blind and can find faults in her work, etc. And then they are people who don't like her (whatever their reasons, they're free not to), and they jump on any opportunity to bash her. There's no discussion to have with these.

Anonymous said...

"There's no discussion to have with these."

Definitely.

And when i see those post i laugh and move on to other posts with more thought put into them. Its not difficult for me to determine what is a trolling post vs someone who has a reasonable criticism of Emma. As you said, trying to combat a poster who is trolling is a fruitless effort and ends nowhere. I find its better to just move on past it and concentrate on the other discussions.

RT said...

I do not see much difficulty in seeing troll post but when I make positive post and they are not posted but single line post just insulting her dress sense or partner are it gives me pause.

Rule of thumb if you would not like something posted referred to you then it should not at Emma. If you would not yourself say your comment to her face don't post them.

Emma has said she felt the weigh of negative comments enough to pull back form social media, so no longer any need to speculate on her view why not respect that and follow my suggestions.

Never forget it is a person, one that has admitted her sensitivity we are discussing. Not an image or philosophy but a human being. Treat her the way you would want to be treated.

Daff said...

I feel the same as the last Anons, I don't think she's the best actress in the world, that would be ignorant, but I think she's an OK actress like many professional critics say, I also think she has a lot of potential, but it's hard to discuss this kind of things in a serious way, and it's funny because there's always trolls here, and if you go to youtube there's people who are over the top fans, way too young to discuss about movies. It's very hard for a cinephile lol

Anonymous said...

Personally i wouldnt have a problem telling Emma how i felt about some of her movies good or bad (not that she cares what i think anyway). In fact, i think if i were to have a conversation about what i didnt like she would rather me be honest and upfront about it rather than lie to her face about it. Now, i wouldnt say some of the things some of the trolls say but there would be no reason for me not to be honest about my opinions about some of her work. I would like to think as a mature adult she would be able to handle differing opinions about her work.

Anonymous said...

I guess one should just say that she is perfect in every film she plays then everyone is satisfied, but the fact is she is not. Is it trolling to see the good points but also to mention the weak links. I think most people agree that she is a talented young woman with a good head on her shoulders and has done well as Hermoine, but if she wants to develop as an actress, she needs training. I do not feel like I am trolling, I care and want her to be the best she can be. If one is not aloud to blog in this way why even bother blogging. Just tell everyone elephants are pink and some will believe it because they want that elephant to be pink.

RT said...

If started giving you career advice to you Anon what would you say, possibly what right do I have to advise someone I don't know. You may ask what are my qualifications or experience to make my judgements. If you saw me doing this giving my opinion to someone else someone clearly upset by what is happening would you be OK with that.

Emma is pulling back because of the way people treat each other.

What is it makes us belive we have any mandate to lecture Emma or anyone we don't know about there decisions, is it because its online, she is famous, we can be Anonymous. Unless you know the person or that they won't mind don't do it. When they have said they do not like it why persist.

If you don't like Emma or what she does fine but keep it to yourself if you have positive things about Emma or anyone post that. Why not.

Eden said...

Why are people always having the same conversations on loop?

Anonymous said...

Eden, Do you like Emma as actress? Later read all comments, I would know your opinion :)It is important for me

Eden said...

"Eden, Do you like Emma as actress?"

I thought she was great in Colonia but to me most of the time it looks like she's thinking about the emotion she's supposed to portray rather than feeling it. The moment she'll let loose and stop overthink I think she'll be amazing.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you Eden :)
thanks you!!!

Anonymous said...

Ross, who is lecturing Emma. These are opinions given in a discussion blog. Nobody is badmouthing Emma, but one does have an opinion about what one sees. This blog, I think, is the place to discuss the actresses films that one has seen and have an opinion. That is not trolling. If you want, keep staring at the pink elephant, but no is trolling and no one is hating her.

"What is it makes us believe we have any mandate to LECTURE anyone we don't know about,"

Isnt that what you are doing to everyone in this statement?

Dont get me wrong, you are entitled to your opinion as that is what its all about. But you are basically judging and lecturing people on how they should behave so you would be just as guilty as the rest of us. You dont know any of us so what gives you the right to tell us what to do? See the problem there? For a guy who thinks that no one should be criticizing EW you sure do spend a lot of time criticizing everyone else on this site. Very hypocritical if you ask me.

"If you don't like Emma or what she does fine but keep it to yourself if you have positive things about Emma or anyone post that."

Now imagine Ross if i posted a comment like what you did here and instead of using Emma put Trump's name in there. What would you say? You would tell me to go pound sand right (and i would agree with you)? lol

Now, dont freak out because im not trying to say Trump and Emma are the same kind of person as they are worlds apart but you do understand how hypocritical that statement you made is right? On one hand you are telling people that saying negative things about people is wrong but then if you were to switch the person of topic you would be saying something completely different in that regard. If its ok to call out idiots like Trump who are public figures than all public figures must be fair game no matter how big or small the criticism is.

To be honest, if Emma is backing away from social networking than i commend her. Emma is her own human being, its great that she is not relying on what other people think about her. She has stated time and time again that she understands the pros and cons of being a celebrity. She knows that she has to take the good with the bad when it comes to praises and criticisms.

It happens with all people who are in the spotlight, Emma is far from alone when it comes to this. Thats the reality of her line of work and activism. If she didnt understand all that she would of walked away from acting a long time ago but she accepted what is and continued on which is great. As a fan i want to see her keep making films and i do believe one day she can win an Oscar. But she does have some room to grow yet as Eden pointed out.

Anyway, i will say no more on this as we have yet again gone off topic when really this should not be a conversation anymore. I think people should have the freedom to express their opinions as long as its done in a civil manner. And if there are trolling posts Eden can simply handle that which she seems to have done already. I love the hard work she puts into her site but it would be a huge turnoff if she decided to censor people just because some people cant handle any kind of criticism.

RT said...

I am saying Emma finds personal comments about her appearance abilities and personal life upsetting. She said so. Given that I am asking why do it.

Saying you don't agree with her or think she has things to learn, fine she said as much herself. But insults about her looks or personal life comparing her unfavorably on a blog dedicated to her is not.

If you indulge in doing things the target finds offensive you are trolling, why because that us how they, the target feel.

Once again if you have a post think of how you would feel if it was aimed at you.

Anonymous said...

I would suggest going back and reading my last post Ross. I explained everything in that post. I even addressed the difference between troll posts and opinions.

Unknown said...

I couldn't agree more with you Eden about her acting skills! Although I think that she was really good in some scenes in Perks Noah. Haven't seen Beauty and The Beast yet (not a huge Disney fan) but she seems to be quite good.
But you're definitely right about Colonia, I was really impressed by her performance, I wish we could see her like that more often. I'm sure she has a great potential.
As an anon says above, I'm more impressed now by her work as an activist. Big source of inspiration.

Anonymous said...

I think young dan radcliffe said it very well once, you can't be part of social networking and then complain about your privacy not being respected. He nor Rupert have Twitter and they are doing fine in their career. There way is not as loud but they have a private life.
I also think it is great that Emma is pulling back out of social networking. To be honest with you, I thought she was too much at times, then got upset because of hacked pictures. I am not interested in her feminism although I am a feminist in my own right, but there are more important issues and women also have to be responsible with themselves and make decisions that do not harm them. That is personal responsibility.
I am glad for her sake if she is pulling out of social networking. She does not need that to build a good career. Either you are good actress, screenwriter, producer or director or not. That is what most fans look for in people like Emma in the entertainment industry. I do not expect them to give me moral inspiration in any direction.

RT said...

You are entirely wrong Anon. I question your understanding of feminism to be honest not meaning any offense.

Anonymous said...

That's the point Ross, feminism is a wide open book. Don't you think a woman should have the strength to be responsible for herself. Don't you think the man should have the strength to respect the woman. Feminism is not a free-for-all and do-what-you feel like.

Anonymous said...

is it bad to say that emma's acting is at times problematic in film and not necessarily good acting? That is an opinion which many people share.
