I'm not a huge fan of her outfit and hair, but I don't think it's awful either. I haven't seen her acceptance speech yet but I read it, and thought it was really good! She really has a talent for speeching.

I thought she looked fantastic, but that her speech was off-key.

Underlying message was fine, delivery was wrong.
A speaker needs to understand their audience. This is the MTV awards. Recent best actor/actress awards have be dominated by The Hunger Games/Twilight casts. Previously Jim Carrey won a couple. It is essentially a teen/young adult audience.
At the MTV's if you are going to spread a message, you need to do it in a relaxed, fun manner.
Emma was way too earnest. It sounded more like a lecture than an acceptance speech.

The speech was definitely a lot for the MTV awards, lol. I appreciated the sentiment, but I just wish she'd chill a bit.

Like Lisa, I haven't seen her speech yet but that's basically what I hear about it too. Right speech, wrong place.

I did like her hairdo personally. From the front it looks like when she had short hair which I love. Not fond of the dress though. I find it too dress-y like the white dress she had worn at another MTV Movie award show. I preferred the 2 colourful others.

She is gorgeous. Lately she is wearling tops or dresses where only one shoulder is covered. I think it makes her skin look nice.As for MTV award, I was surprised she got it over Jackman, but hey, I guess Belle spoke more to the audience.

Maybe you don't consider who Emma is.
First of all Emma is not Josh, she is serious even when she wants to joke.
Secondly, she doesn't think that young people are too foolish to understand certain speeches, on the contrary they are the people to whom it is more useful to speake.
Finally the occasion of the first genderless movie award was too important not to catch it.

I totally agree, the speech like all her speeches is very good, but she is not in a conference of heforshe, this in a few awards, for my emma must know when to give a speech or another, or which tone to use, sometimes More serious and in others, but it is true that although the speech was good it has been in the wrong place.
On the other hand, although I do not want to demean Emma, I believe that the fact that she is ambassador of the UN, and a defender of the rights of women, has conditioned what they have been given the prize (first prize without gender distinction) I do not say that her acting as Belle is bad (although for me she was not the best of the film) but I think this award has been more for her work as a feminist than for her performance

I think it's great that there is a neutral prize, no gender division, but I do not think it's necessary to withdraw or criticize that there are also prizes for "Best actor" and "Best actreess", I do not think there is anything wrong

I say this
"I think it's great that there is a neutral prize, no gender division, but I do not think it's necessary to withdraw or criticize that there are also prizes for "Best actor" and "Best actreess", I do not think there is anything wrong"
Because the girl girl ( Asia Kate Dillon) criticize to the Emmy awards for division her awards in men and women,I do not think it is necessary criticize

Yes, but We're in for some crazy, funny prizes, not at a HeforShe press conference.
Emma is very serous for this kind of events, I do not know, I never just saw her comfortable, maybe it just happens to me, I do not know :)

Yes, her outfit is something serious for my taste, but in the line of Emma, I mean, she is very sober and serious wearing, she saw a lot of black, on the tour of Beauty and the Beast, 95% of the clothes were black
She has always been sober but since she has been an ambassador for the UN,more sober

The ring again...

The winners of the MTV awards are chosen by online votes, right? I'm not entirely sure.
But if they are than I think people genuinely voted for her because of her portrayal of Belle, not for her HeForShe stuff.

"e winners of the MTV awards are chosen by online votes, right? I'm not entirely sure. " No the winners are told before. Coicidence that emma was only there when she won? Surprise that a feminist woman won the first genderfree award which should only be about skill as she said and nobody thought her portrayal was great? Of course that was decided by MTV. The whole show was about political correctness.

Well, it could be said that because MTV went with the very first gender neutral award and with Emma being a champion for gender equality that she got the award first. I could only imagine that had a man won that award being the first of its kind that there would of been some heat about it. With all that said when it comes to the younger MTV crowd Emma has enough popularity to win an online vote.

If you go to youtube, there Emma's speech was read. I liked her speech. So what's next in the film tube for Emma?

Anonymous said...

this is just a fad the real awards would never have gender neutral awards

Unfortunately Awards can be manipulated:/

I like Emma, she is a nice girl, but the obssesion is not good

I think she was told before that she had won (it happens with other celebrities, like Britney Spears, for instance - she only shows up at ceremonies when she wins something), but it doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't thanks to an online vote. Like it or not, she's very popular among the "young" audience, people that are online and vote for these kinds of things. And "B&B" was a huge success.

Lisa said...

But that the winners told in advance still doesn't mean the voting of the general public is fake. (I looked it up by the way, it's indeed an open online voting)

I thought her speech was great, she's not just like every other celebrity when they win an award, she actually has a message to convey and if she has the spotlight to do it, why wouldn't she?

Lisa said...

Yeah I agree. I think the popularity of a character is probably even more important than the quality of the acting, at award shows such as this.

Outside of their films, I think most celebrities are ridiculous exhibitionists. It would be great if she would use a few of her million to set up a company offering jobs to women, who are in desperate need of work. Begin at home.

I can't help but feel annoyed by the fact that she believes this is the first ever gender-neutral award. MTV did it in 2006 and 2007 and no one says anything. Maybe because men won each year? I don't know. But when she wins it, she's lauded and praised as being the first ever gender-neutral award recipient. I've been a fan of hers since HP and love that she fights against gender inequality, but this was a bit much.

Anonymous said...

I got it now. Anything new on new films. Nothing on the web.

Lisa said...

I think "setting up a company offering jobs to women" is easier said than done ;)

It is not like she won an Oscar or even a Golden Globe. The MTV awards have no prestige. I can't believe all the comments as if this were the most important award one can get. If she gets an Oscar then it is worth discussing in the realm of quality films and presentation.

Anonymous said...

Lol, no offense but ive seen actors/actresses win Oscars and GG's when in my opinion they really didnt deserve it. So this idea that you would need one to be considered a worthy actor is a pretty ridiculous standard to set for something that is subjective anyway.

Holly said...

Actors do campaign to get Oscars and other prestigious awards, they're not solely based on talent. This award might not be the most prestigious thing in the world, nor the most significant, but it's voted by people, by the audience, so I guess it doesn't hurt to win one. I agree, it's more like a popularity contest here, but I don't see this as a bad thing.

Anonymous said...

I agree, but that is always an opinion, but I have felt that way a few times. But overall though, an actor carrying a film shines out of the ordinary in some way. One differs in opinions, but their is a set criteria along with reviews that go into the final decision

Riley makes some great points here. The recent MTV award thing had me scratching my head as well. I dont believe that having gender equality means blurring the lines between men and women.

“Men and women should have equal rights, of course, but [they] are also different and there’s nothing wrong with that,” she said. “We don’t have to start unifying gender in order to establish political equality.”

“The HeForShe campaign creates a lot of confusion when it comes to gender equality, because people are getting stuck in a semantic argument, rather than addressing the actual issue. People are associating gender equality with being exactly the same and, of course, that’s not what it means,” she continued.

I haven't read the interview but Riley tweeted that she had never mentioned Emma or HeForShe in her interview. just throwing it out there.

Source of article; breitbart.

Now people can agree or disagree with Emma's stance on feminism, but breibart is an alt-right site where her views are never likely to gain favour.

"I haven't read the interview but Riley tweeted that she had never mentioned Emma or HeForShe in her interview. just throwing it out there."

Its possible but then she could just be covering herself because of the shitstorm it created. Hard to say at this point.

"Source of article; breitbart"

Unfortunately it isnt only Breitbart reporting it. In this article they even go on to say that Riley isnt afraid of antagonizing powerful women. I know very little about Riley in general so i dont know how combative she is with people.

I do think its funny they all claim she slammed Emma in some way but the article doesnt show that kind of behavior.
