Her Royal Spyness is a series of 5 novels until now.
The movie doesn't have a distributor or cast yet but here is what the author, Rhys Bowen, is saying about the leading role:
Set in London in 1930, this merry first in a new cozy series from Agatha-winner Bowen introduces a delightful heroine—Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie. Thirty-fourth in line for the English throne, Georgie has been educated to curtsey, host lavish fetes and marry well. When her brother cuts off her pitiful allowance, Georgie leaves the family home in Scotland for London, determined to become a liberated woman. Lasting only a few hours as a saleswoman in Harrods, Georgie starts a maid service, but she turns detective after finding a drowned man in her bathtub. When her brother is accused of the murder, she must try to clear him and the family name. Quirky characters like her lovable grandfather; her estranged, oft-wed mother; and an incorrigible, sexy Irishman add to the fun. Georgie's madcap antics are certain to leave the reader eager for the next installment.
The movie doesn't have a distributor or cast yet but here is what the author, Rhys Bowen, is saying about the leading role:
I had a very heady Hollywood moment when Her Royal Spyness was optioned and I had lunch with the producers and they asked me what my feelings were about Keira Knightley. We actually came to the conclusion that Emma Watson might be a better bet. As yet the project is moving forward, so they say, and an English production company is on board but we haven't got to the casting stage. It's all pie in the sky and rather fun in the abstrac.

EDIT: TheCoffeeBreak emailed Rhys Bowen for more explanation and here is her answer:
She would be one of my top choices. I don't believe it's reached that stage yet. They are still refining the script before it can be sent to potential stars. As soon as I have any news I'll share it, I promise.
Best Rhys Bowen.

denial is the first step to failure
bye,bye college
Because some people are considering Emma for a role you think she'll leave college? It doesn't say anything about Emma's decision, we don't even know if she already knows about the script. Your comment doesn't make any sense.
I admire your ingenuity, this is the perfect role for emma.
Hmm Emma would surely want to jump into another series after Harry Potter.... uh no?
Bit of wishful thinking from the author there possibly to get a bit hype and publicity... I doubt she'd leap into another series bar a very good script, I'd imagine she's been getting a lot of offers of work especially recently, she'll do whatever interests her.
I don't know about "Her Royal Spyness" ... but I really think Emma needs another movie project very soon. If she goes back to college for a year and doesn't do another movie until next summer that would be career suicide.
Her star power will be off the charts this summer, but it won't last long after Potter is over for good.
She has a small role in MWWM in Nov, then Perks in spring of 2012. If she waits until next summer to do another movie it won't come out until the summer of 2013. That's too long! Her star power will fade drastically by then.
If she gets offered a great role in a new movie that starts filming later this summer or in the fall, she should take it! That way her next movie after Perks will come out about six months later. That would maintain some continuity with her acting career.
Maybe she could do a semester of college starting in Jan 2012 and then another movie next summer.
She has not proven herself to be a great actress ... yet. We all know she is good. I hope she doesn't become complacent and just assume she can do a movie whenever she feels like. That could backfire.
Actually, it is starting to look like she was a little more desparate to do Perks than it originally seemed. I was a bit surprised to find out Emma went to LA to help get funding for the movie.
Go for it, Emma! You are at the top now. Don't take it for granted. You should start another movie project in the next six months. Don't let it all slip away!
I'm not sure this would be a full "series" commitment- the books don't seem to have an overarching theme that would need to be resolved in X number of books. Rather, it would be the type of series like Bridget Jones or Sherlock Holmes, where stories for sequels exist, but will only be made on a case by case basis depending on the commercial success of the first.
This sounds fantastically fun- I'd love to see Emma running around in all of the period costumes (she looked fabulous in similar-era costuming in Ballet Shoes). It does seem a little more frivolous than she might want to do right now, however. Perks and MWWM are both thoughtful, character-driven dramas.
The producer's right. Emma would really fit the role. But I don't think she'll give up college unfortunately. But this liberated woman story fits her and it would be cool to see her in a dark, investigation movie.
She's so on the fence about continuing her acting career, (although lately it seems that she's leaning more towards wanting to continue to act), I'd be happy to see her in anything. Even if she waits a year, I don't think her career would be dead. She's Hermione Granger (now Weasley :)), she has millions of fans that would support her. She may hold off a bit, but she's still going to be hot property in the next couple of years... Plus, there are many actors that take time off, do a great movie and BAM, they have their career back.
I have hope that she's not going to go all stupid and mess everything up. She has a good head on her shoulders, and millions of fans counting on her. CONTINUE, EMNA. PLEASE!
I don't think Emmas career will be dead if she takes time out, look at Natalie Portman. It's all about the quality of the roles not how often you have a movie out that gives you star power. Emma also has the deal with Lancome to keep her name in the media.
Also I saw her going to LA to get funding for perks as a fabulous sign for her career. She was willing to really invest in a movie because she believed in it and the script. Directors want those kind of actors, the ones who actually believe in and give themselves to a project.
Emma has been in Harry Potter and so has experienced huge fame, I think after this while she'll still want her name on the media and star power etc of course, I think she'll be more concerned about playing different types of roles and trying out new things like theatre than with how famous she is. She's been in the most successful movie series of all time and she doesn't need the money. I'd rather she took her time and choose interesting roles than just did a project so she'll have a movie out the following year.
My comment was in response to the anon with all the little paragraphs, there's so many I'm losing track a bit!
Also I do think this is a bit of a ploy by the producer to get us and everyone talking about the movie and maybe bring it to Emmas attention. He's looking for publicity and mentioning Emmas name to do with a movie from a book series with it being less than a month before Deathly Hallows is a very good bet at getting some. So I'm a bit skeptical. Emma probably hasn't even heard of it.
I absolutely agree with you Kate.
Also, It's not the first time an author cites Emma for a role in the movie adaptation of his/her book.
I would love to see Emma in this kind of roles, I can't wait to see what she does next but she has time.
javascript:void(0)
Otherwise I would love to see Emma as Kitty in Joe Wright's Anna Karenina adaptation. Saoirse Ronan left the project (I like this young actress, she is so talented and pretty). Keira, Jude Law and James Mcavoy are all attached to this movie. I would be happy to see Emma in it ( but I can dream XD).
I agree with Kate above. I don't think Emma should do just any movie right after Potter ends, but if she gets a great offer for a great role this fall or winter, I hope she takes it. We have only seen her as Hermione and Pauline Fossil. The part in MWWM is pretty small and Perks, though interesting, is just an Indie. I hope she doesn't turn down too many roles for school. Other up and coming actresses could rocket past her in the next few years. She is a long way from proving she has the talent and versatility of a Natalie Portman. It is not unheard of for an actress to take time off and then make a come back. But there are many, many actresses who have been famous and successful then just dropped off the face of the Earth. I think Emma will do good, but she needs a kick ass role in a significant movie fairly soon, I think, to keep the momentum going.
she has to accept bigger roles, she is an actress for God's sake, you all are obsessed with the fucking hermione.
She really has to take bigger roles but I don't think a pause to finish her studies will kill her career. If this movie isn't finished to write yet, we'll have to wait at least 6 months before the project becomes a production, so she'll have time to study. And if it's set in London, she can do an exchange program in a uni near London to film it.
To summarize this post ...
Emma you should be selective! ... but don't turn down an incredible role that could define and influence your future acting career for things like Ovid's Metamorphasis, European Women's Studies or U.S. History from 1945 ...
You can still get your History degree. It just may take 2 or 3 semesters longer than you intended.
Maybe I am a bit selfish, but please don't take your acting career for granted. I want to see you do good. The competition is intense. Go for it now!
Eden, maybe you should make some little notice somewhere at the top of blog that it is not Emma's site, blog,or any of her officials?
Good point Serge! I think the Anon above could be the blond, PA, body guard, advisor, mentor lady we have seen so many times. She probably has a vested interest in Emma doing more movies right away. She probably gets bored when Emma goes to college. I think there was a picture of her last fall with a high tech cat box, when Emma got a cat for her dorm room. She appears to be enjoying herself with Emma in Pittsburg and with things like the MTV Awards. She got to sit closer to Emma than Johnny, anyway.
