[New EWO message] Emma Watson is leaving for Los Angeles

Hey Guys,
I'm just packing to go out to Los Angeles for "Bling Ring".
I'm taking my 3rd term out of Worcester College to make sure I don't compromise my studies or my part in the film.
I am so excited to have the opportunity to learn from Sofia and make what I think is a very important film. This is a bit of dream for me really.
So that's my update!
I hope everyone is well.
Love Emma xx

Go for it Emma! But I am glad that you are not comprimising your studies. What wonderful research you will be doing by participating in this film.To make a film with Sofia Coppola is not to be taken lightly and is a great opportunity.
Good luck!

Wow, she must really love the Bling Ring script! Because if you do an exchange year from a US university to a UK one, you have to do the FULL three trimesters in order to have the full year of credits...

So, if she's taken a semester off from Brown, and a trimester/term off from Oxford, how will she graduate by June 2013? I wish her agency had been able to schedule her filming date during her break - it's a long one!

I really want Em to finish her degree completely (so proud of her), mostly because I want to see her in more film (plus some theatre maybe!)

That is one long vacation lol. When you really look at it, she will have seven months off now until her next term at Oxford. Plenty of time to do other projects, travel, whatever the hell she really wants to. And I am extremely glad to hear that she isn't abandoning her studies, that's one of the reasons why I like her.

$5 says she'll dump will and start dating some d-bag from LA

Aww, I really admire for her for still prioritizing her studies. Em is really a great role model. Wish her all the best! :-)

lol i also think she'll start dating some bad LA boy :/ and its cool that she's making movies but this is the 2nd time she loses semester :/

Thanks for explaining the "out" thing on Twitter. I had no idea what that meant. So I guess this means she might be graduating a semester late.

I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up filming "Voice" this summer too. I see her trying to take advantage of the time she has off and get as much work done as she can, hopefully they can get the cast together.

Also, it will be interesting with her in LA. She's going to have to learn how to hide.

I don't understand what she means when she said she is "taking my third term out of Worcester College" I know that's the college she goes to at Oxford, but what is she saying? Does this mean she won't be going back to Brown in the fall but will be doing the term she is now skipping at Oxford in the fall? I'm so confused! Can someone please explain this to me???

Someone explained like this: "by 12th March, her second term will end, her third was supposed to start from 22nd April (till Mid June)... which she won't be taking, in order to make this movie. Now she will do her third term in Worcester from Oct - Dec and Back to Brown from January."

How do we know she is going back to Brown for sure? And why would she go back to Worcester? Can't she just make up her missing credits when back at Brown?

She's rich, she's smart, she's pretty and she's an actress. No where does it say you have to earn a degree in 4 years. She can take time off and do movies and then go back. It's not like she can't afford it, and she makes good grades. So what if it takes her a little longer as long as she does it and doesn't drop out all together that's all that matters.:)

I'll take that bet. I bet she's bringing Will with her. He seems smart enough to follow her where she goes.

Eden said...

Haha, I can totally imagine the thing.
Will: I need to take a term off.
Oxford: Reason?
Will: I want to follow my girlfriend who is filming a movie in the US.
Oxford: ???

good one eden,, plus i think Will is a graduate student. he must have projects, maybe a thesis or dissertation or something. i doubt he could just leave, but who knows? it would be weird if emma started dating johnny S. again.

If the reports were true that her and Johnny ended kind of badly, I don't think they would get back together. That has to be difficult to do though, packing that is. Since she will be missing her third term, she'll have to be gone for at least 2 months. I argue with myself on what to bring when I pack for a 4 day trip! Hope she has enough trunks :P

Things did not end badly between Emma and Johnny. Not going into details - but they remain friends.

It is normal for UK students studying for the Mst. for English Literature and I believe in other areas also. They attend classes for the Michaelis and Hilary Term, and the Trinity term from 22. April to 16. June is used for the dissertation, which is due in the beginning of June. So this is a research semester.I think this is what she means when she says she is taking her 3rd term out of Worcester. She will be a busy young woman between research and film.
But again it is normal for UK that Trinity term, which is after Hilary, is research time.

By taking my thrid term out of worcester college I'm reading that she's studying from distance...

This is good news. I wish it becomes a hit at the box office. But i also guess she won't do the fashion week. If those rumours were true.

Eden said...

There were no rumours of fashion week, only people hoping she would go.

@Anonymous 5:41, Thanks for the heads up. Like I had said, if the reports were true, which was nothing more than a rumor. I have no reason not to believe you. And don't worry, I don't want the details. To me, that's just too personal of a line to cross and it is none of our business.

I believ that is true annonymous, I interpret it also as studying from the distance. But it is tue. Trinity is research term- no seminars. Locking a theme in, reading-reading-, formulating a thesis and then proving your thesis.

I believe during the Research semester, they have to report with a professor on a regular basis, but it is more or less independent study- research. The students have a prof who guides the students, but they are more or less on their own. The Mst. that many exchange students do at Oxford in different subject areas is set up this way. Just because Emma is gone for about 8 to 10 weeks doesn't mean that she is not doing the Trinity Term. She has shown that she is multi-tasked at Brown with HP and studies and she pulled it off for 3 semesters and that was with having to attend classes. No classes have to be attended during Trinity Term; it is pure research.

"I really want Em to finish her degree completely (so proud of her), mostly because I want to see her in more film (plus some theatre maybe!) "

Oh yes, Emma in Theatre would be nice. She said she want's to do it so much and maybe she is doing some Plays soon after filming or in Uni to get Experience. It would be different than Movies and a Difference is always nice.

Jason said...

Oh ok thanks Eden for clearing it up :)

3rd term at Oxford is a research term, she's probably going to do it from the states. She just needs to check in with her supervisor via email but she needs to research and write it herself, she doesnt have to be in Oxford to do that.

I am interested in what this young woman decides to do. Film, theatre, artist, designer, writer. I believe that she has too be careful that she doesn't get too carried away with too many projects running parallel to one another. I'd like to read something she writes. She has said, that she would like to write a novel. But I am also interested in new films. Theatre, most likely she won't be doing theatre in Germany, and I can't afford to travel to UK or USA for theatre. Although I have lived in South Amboy NJ and have been to Broadway.
I just wish her the best in whatever she decides to to, but indeed she should complete her education. The more the actor understands about subjects and how they interrelate, the better the actor will be able to express a role. Meryl Streep is as good as she is because she is also an educated woman. Marg. Thatcher was defined so perfectly because Streep did her research well, understood the times and personality of the Iron Lady. This combination is successed with a good education, then the actor can interpret his/her role. Do I see a Meryl Streep of her generation in Emma Watson? Yes I do, but education is important. But I think emma understands that, and so she logically does what she does.

Whether this is a break or distance learning, she will complete her degree I'm sure, it'll just take some time. She can spread it over more than 4 years if she wants to, I don't see whats wrong with that. She's still committed to her education, she might just be taking her time with it, there's no rush.

comparing an emma of the future to a meryl streep -WOW. But she could have the cops. But I agree education is important to understanding a character in his time and presenting that character. But talent must not be forgotten. But emma can show us that in the bling and your voice in my head.

meryl stree! Wow! But not impossible

But working on a BA forever is kind of elementary. Now if someone took a bit longer with MA or Phd. I could understand, but spending 5 to 6 years on a BA is kind of - well- ordinary.A BA degree is work- no doubt- but very manageable.
