What does that mean? Men and women are different in body strength and physical abilities. Women can bear children but men can't. Man and woman are created different. What does that mean I want a gender equal world , when the fact is men and women are different?
It means that she wants people to be treated the same regardless of what they look like or what their differences might be because in reality we are actually more alike than you might think.
so what's she going to do about it? a book club? woopie do.
i wonder if she gets paid for this or even pays to travel around to do grandstanding speeches? probably not. but you know who does? the people who are daft enough to donate to this sham!
i'm a big fan of emma and i can't wait until she finishes this stuff
Ricardo, yeah, let her start by acknowledging that racial or gender inequality is absolutely dwarfed by economic inequality to the point where it's just funny to compare them even. Let her start then by giving away her 60$ million if she want to be fucking equal. This a white, attractive, western woman that is also a multi millionaire, I don't think you could have a better cards in life than she does. She doesn't get to talk about inequality because she's on a fucking pedestal a mile above the rest of us here in the mud. Once she comes down from that giant pedestal she may talk about it, and maybe, just maybe someone might even take her seriously...
Wow, such negative comments. Just because she is a privileged person doesn't mean that she doesn't have the right to speak on gender inequality. Women everywhere in the world face it. And yes, maybe in the Western world, gender inequality may mean things like unequal pay, or job discrimination, etc; stuff that seems mundane compared to the horrors women face in non-western countries like the Middle East. But that doesn't mean that gender inequality faced by women in the Western world shouldn't be dealt with. If people in position of power, especially in the West who can affect change, cannot remove gender inequality in their own counties, how can they possibly help women elsewhere? Furthermore, if you remove your blinders and see Emma Watson as more than a privileged white woman, you'll see that she can be a powerful instrument of change. She's famous, liked by many, inspires a lot of the youth, particularly young girls. She's a great role model. I'm glad the UN chose her as an ambassador
Bravo Emma for constantly doing the right thing for the entire planet and standing up for what is right as Hermione would/does. I really like her sober dark image to reflect poor Alan Rickman's passing. I read Dan's tribute, very poignant.
To the 0.5% of haters of themselves,Emma and everyone else. Is this how you spend your time daily? When you could do something more and better? As how Emma and countless unsung heroes/heroines do so daily. She isn't talking of 'gender differences' all of you, ANONS she is talking about gender equality. One is an ideal another is a biological aspect. DUH.
I feel for the women in the Middle East, but that is a cultural and political problem of that part of the world. I would not necessarily say it is a Muslim problem, for I know Muslim women that act very normal here in Europe but believe. I do not think a Emma Watson laughing in Turkey is going to change that. Equality begins in the family, learning to respect and love one another. If you do not learn it there, all other relationships are frayed and disconnected. I have really begun to like Emma's acting Colonia, but I think her HFS is high-browed. Her book club is unrealistic, and I hate the idea of someone thinking they know what others like in feminism. _Hasn't anyone offered her a new part in a movie? She desperately nees something real to do.
I think Emma could start donating millions for children in poor countries so that they could be educated. Or better yet- building a school, creating a concept as owner that equality will be honored when educating boys and girls- lets say Africa. Put your money where your mouth is. Emma, use your money to build a school let's us say Tanzania.Otherwise this is all talk!
You know, Eden, you can delete comments on this blog. Just because stupid people have a right to free speech, that doesn't mean you're obligated to lend them your microphone.
My daughter told me about HeForShe on this site. I do not agree with this stance, for I believe feminism should be so open as to say that family is the most important institution for creating equality. My daughter and my sons and I have had many such discussions. Feminism in its neuroticism is egocentric, but focused correctly it may work wonders, but I wonder if Emma has enough maturity to get this motor going. Luca
" as to say that family is the most important institution for creating equality" You clearly don't know anything about feminism, you seem to never had read any marx/Engels either so... Let me educate you, one of the main goals of feminism is abolition of monogamy and the nuclear family because feminism considers these to be tools of patriarchal oppression. Educate yourself better, maybe try reading books rather than just listening what some starlet has to say...
That women are helped in abusive situations are important, but family must be supported, for that is where all education begins. With the abolition of monogamy and nuclear family, respect for one another is declined. Disrespect can be in the family, I am not denying that, but that is all the more reason to keep the family safe so that adults in the family can as a unit in love raise their children to respect others. One can only do this with the capacity to love. I think Emma's intention is good, but she is riding a bandwagon of popularity now, and is grazing the field like one of the sheep of feminism. Just an aside, most feminists that I know have real problems with relationships with men or women. Many carry a deep hurt, which needs to be healed in other ways but not with another feminist movement. I agree men and women must be treated with equality, but where do we begin?
Clara Campoamor, Spanish activist who fought for women's suffrage in Spain, and won the votes of women, said the phrase "I'm not a feminist, I am humanist" I think that's the key, not a feminist, sexist .. . be "Humanist", equality above all, the men and women are as diferent as equal, and we must seek equality among us. I think that Emma is doing a great job, but she still has a way to go, there are things that are not clear and needs to meditate, I think that this life is not all black and white, tthe extremes are never good, and Emma seems a somewhat extreme person. This is written by a "humanist woman"
Clara Campoamor is a good example- Right- Humanist vs. Feminist. Clara was very clear in her goals in her times, but she stayed true to herself as a woman who cared for the plight of others. Women's suffrage had to be done all over the world. In our Western culture, women have all the rights as men. There are more talented men than women and more talented women than men. I like the idea of humanist much more. Being a feminist is a tight passage that rules out family and love, for then women would be.... Being a mother is a profession; it is an art being a good mother and raising children that will contribute to society as people who care.
Humanist is the way vs. Feminism is the way. As a humanist you are open to the needs of others and get right to the ground and do the work. It is not clear, but I think that is what Emma means. As a woman use your talents to help the needs of others.

TO EMMA OF THE 1%
"Equality is a facade. If everything was equal, we'd all look like you and have the same paycheck."
FROM THE 99%

it's because 'she is a privileged' she gets to speak
how about her for the 99%?
It's like Anky from the 2007/2008 era or the 'bodyguard' who doesn't know the difference a 'Miss' from a 'Mrs' me thinks the comments above are them.

Start distribuing the Millions! That is helping to create an equal world for men and women.

I think if you like a personality like Emma, it does not matter who you are and what age you are.
Especially when you have the feeling that her personality is unique.

It is depressing that not more people in this world are like Emma or similar.
I think everyone should be invited to like her.

She already has... But I bet you didn't even know because you're way too busy critizicing other people
