I am looking forward to this movie habing read the book the narrative is even more relevant now than when it was written.
The paring of Emma and Tom Hanks is a good choice. They are both generous performers wifh the human touch ideal for a story about the mechanisation of society.
Given that shooting began on this film in September 2015 and yet it is undergoing re-shoots in January 2017, with an anticipated release date of late April 2017 it may not augur well for the film.
Not unreasonable to assume that test screenings have not been particularly favorable. It will be interesting to see how faithful to the book the film will be. Always a balancing act producing a film based on a book that explores the issues that The Circle does.
Stellar cast, but potentially problematic source material.
Also interesting that the distribution rights for the USA have been acquired by an European company, which would be unusual for a film produced by and starring Tom Hanks.
Not sure when the reshoots were but they are not uncommon usually a result of technical issues that were missed in the "rushes" these days. Reshoots are factored into actors contracts so limited cost implications I would not read to much into it.
Maybe this has something to do with the reshoots :/, I hope it turns out well. I have a feeling the release date it's gonna be pushed back, maybe May? or maybe a Cannes premiere? fingers crossed. Reshoots always give me bad feelings.
EuropaCorp's financial states are not ideal at this moment, 3 out 4 films they made last year are pretty bad. But they do know how to pick good indie films to distribute. I bet they didn't just throw a lot of money to get The Circle's US distribution right for a crappy film.
I remember reshoots in the post-production phases of the LOTR films, and everyone of them won oscars and not just one. Everything Tom Hanks does is quality work. I am so glad that Emma worked with him. I also read the book and also believe that this story is more relevent than ever. The book is creepy and funny which asks a lot from the characters. I think the book has good character development, which I hope is also done in the film. I usually do not like films or novels with weak character development. Often the character development gives a film that emotional carriage that everyone can relate to. It would be great if this fact could be translated onto the big screen. I am looking forward to both films. I hope they are successes.
Reshoots are common, they can happen on the day of shooting up to post production. They are genreally technical matters. I have heard of reshoots of a 10 second scene because of a reflection in a door. My speculation is that these reshoots may have been delayed by the actors availability. Tom Hanks has been prompting a number of films consecutively and we know how busy Emma has been.
We will of couse not know until the movie is released, if the reshoot are significant or not. However my biggest concern being in the UK is the distribution of the movie which has been patchy for a large number of films over the last 18 months.

The reshoots are happening right now.

you cant compare LOTR with this. it was a huge three movie shoot all filmed at once. there had to be some minor reshoots.
