No idea why the distributors have not set release date yet. Mixed reviews but to be expected with complex movie. Emma over comes off well as do most actors involved. Subject matter was tricky and ending seems to have deviated from the book bit won't know until I can see the film.

RT said...

Sorry to be clear no release date for UK has been set OK other countries have dates like Poland where I may go see it May 3rd

The ending in the book was way to fast. I hope that they changed the ending. I am looking forward to the film.

I loved Belle as she was. Why does Emma have to give each film a feministic twist? In the long run she is going to turn people off.

Anonymous said...

Does emma read the scripts with a brain. Vikander got out of the film. Of course she did not say why, but she revealed in an interview that she reads the scripts with her father, a psychiatrist. He told her that she had to do The Danish Girl which got her an Oscar. Emma could use that kind of help in selecting scripts. The script of The Circle is getting criticism everywhere. I feel bad for her. If this film turns out to be a flop, it will be her 3rd flop within a short span of time.

I think Emma would like to have every film do well but i also think she doesnt care if it makes millions or not. Lets face it, she has money so that really isnt a factor for her personally. She chooses scripts that interest her but i get the feeling with some it wont matter how well they do at the box office because i think she would rather do a movie she is passionate about vs one that would garner her awards. Just my take on it.

I haven't seen The Circle yet (it doesn't have a release date in my country) but from what I've read it seems that the main problem was the lack of direction, also I don't know what happen to Tom Hanks, this is like the third movie produced by him that gets bad reviews in just 2 years. I also remember that Emma had like a week to prepare for the movie, so if she's really bad in this I think it's her fault for taking the role knowing the little time she was going to have. I haven't seen the movie and I have to judge it for myself, but I don't think it's going to be so different from what I've read, it's a bit disappointing knowing all the talented people involved.

Now that I was thinking about this, I'm guessing this is one of the reasons (and I say ONE because it's clearly there are more reasons) she changed agencies, I hope she picks better things in the future.

Anonymous said...

I think you are right that she chooses roles which she is passionate about, but if one is passionate about a role, that passion ensues from reading the script. Of course I am saying these things from reviews that I have read and the criticisms therein regarding the script and direction. I do not see how one can be passionate about a role if one reads a bad script- of course it is different if one does not realize that they are in fact reading a bad script. I wish for Emma that she gets good roles that speak to her other talents- like being a painter. Oh well.

I wish the best to Emma, I like a lovely chcia, but her performance is very limited, all her performances have been not bad, but not good, she needs a training to be a better actress, if she wants to dedicate herself to it, there are actresses Much better than her out there, and she can not get papers simply because she's the innkeeper Hermione, the girl ready, needs better skills as an actress

Well I don't know where you found this information but her father is a lawyer actually...

9.3 Million weekend. Massive flop.

Anonymous said...

Emma Flopson ;D

Anonymous said...

Regardless of how the movie fares, Emma got an opportunity to work with Tom Hanks Yo! That's a pretty big deal. :D

Anonymous said...

rubbish. i would be gutted if that happened to me.

Daff said...

I think an opening weekend with 9 million for an independent movie with a 18 million budget it's hardly a flop, not excellent but not a flop, and I don't think she's devastated because of that, I'm sure she already know it was going to make that money, i mean if my latest movie made 1.1 billion i woudn't cara that much

Anonymous said...

Beauty isn't really strictly Emma's movie as such now is it? It would have made over billion without her. We all knew it will do very well as soon as it got announced.

She has wasted the last 6 years imo

Daff said...

So, when a movie does well is not an Emma's movie but when the movies does bad it's totally hers haha, well The Circle would be bad with any actress too, because it's biggest problems are the script and the direction.

Anonymous said...

Beauty would have done that well without her. Beauty is a big big brand second only to Lion King for Disney.

Daff said...

Agree with that, but at the end of the day SHE was the chosen to make the movie, and SHE is the one enjoying the success of it. It's still HER movie just as the Harry Potter ones. The only ones that i wouldn't call "her" movies are This is the End and My week with Marilyn.

So, no, I don't think she's devastated because The Circle is doing 9 million when her other movie has made over 1 Billion, and at the end of this year we all gonna remember Beauty and the Beast more than the Circle for obvious reasons. I mean, c'mon, we don't have to fool ourselves, I understand that some people want to see her devastated but you really think she's having a terrible moment??

Anonymous said...

We won't ever know if "B&B" would have been this successful without her. I think she's part of the success of the movie. Many people were excited to see her as Belle. It would have been big without her, for sure, but to say it would have been this successful is far-fetched. There's no way to know this for sure.

Daff said...

That's true, it's obvious big part of the success is because of the nostalgia but it would be stupid to think that Emma didn't constribute to that success, many went to see it because of her (me included), I remember that Fandango made a poll with ticket buyers for the opening weekend and almost a third of them went for Emma. There was a huge expectation to see her as Belle.

N. said...

... More than a little off topic (I'm sorry!). But do you think Emma actually was diagnosed with ADHD? My little sister has it, and I'd love to tell her that EW does too. When I google "Emma Watson AND Ritalin," so much comes up, including an article in the Guardian. And seeing early interviews with her makes me think it's not at all impossible. But she never talks about it (or does she?). What do you think? ((Otherwise, thank you so much for keeping your blog updated! It's really impressive.)) N.

HP & BATB movies were family blockbusters which had a ready made audience.
Bling Ring, Perks were teen/adult transition movies.
Noah, well God only knows :-)
So we come to Emma's adult movies; Colonia, Regression and The Circle, all of which have done poorly at the box office. Sure smaller independent movies, but nonetheless there is no indication at this stage that Emma has box office pull, outside the family fantasy genre.

Her next moves will be interesting.
Of her HP alumni, Daniel has done plenty of stage work and independent movies, Rupert has moved into TV, what next (in an acting sense) for Emma?

Seems like personal comments are still the norm. Her life as entertainment. All of you should be ashamed. She admitted this hurts what more do you want.

Serve you all right if she stops leave you to the vacuous celebrities you deserve.

Anonymous said...

Seriously Ross, maybe this place isn't for you.

People are discussing Emma's acting/career on an Emma Watson blog.
If you really think the comments on this page are derogatory/hurtful, then I can only think you have lost any perspective regarding Emma and to be perfectly honest I can't help but think you have gone past the stage of being a fan/supporter of Emma and become an individual who has developed an unhealthy obsession with her.

Anonymous said...

If all those people went to Beauty and the Beast went to see the film for Emma, why didn't that work out for The Circle? According to reviews, the script is not well written, and overall the acting wasn't good. Even Tom Hanks got criticism there. Emma Watson is not the magic name where everyone will fall at her feet at the movie theater. Yes Emma was in it, but Beauty is a classic, and it is very interesting how an animated film is transformed to a regular movie. For instance, I am anticipating Andy Serkis' Jungle Book with Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch. That is another famous animation that draws an audience to see it in live acting. Well, I also think Cate Blanchett and Benedict Cumberbatch are awesome.

This is why no one can take you seriously on anything. On one hand you say that saying bad things about someone you dont know is wrong. But then you end your post by saying negative things about other celebrities you dont know. Dont be a hypocrite Ross. If you are going to talk the talk than at least walk the walk. If you have no problem talking shit about other people than Emma is more than fair game. Get off your high and mighty soap box already.

Anonymous said...

I thought I was the only one thinking that Ross is obsessed about Emma. All he ever does is defend her from anyone who doesn't praise her and Im pretty sure he has a shrine in his room dedicated to Emma XD but joking aside, take some perspective and stop drooling. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism or an honest opinion.

Daff said...

I said many people were interested to see her as BELLE, and is not me who is saying it's fandango, one of the biggest ticket sellers, why you insist in denying something so tangible? you must live under a rock to think that just one or two dudes were interested in her. We can debate about her acting about her choices, but why keep denying something that is SO obvious.

Now why this people didn't show up for the Circle? The lack of promotion and bad reviews, Blockbuster movies can get the worst reviews and stil are able to make enough money (like Transformers) because they put a lot of effort in Marketing, it's not the same for indie movies, they depend a lot on good reviews, that it's the best promotion for its success because studios don't give indie movies enough money to make a big compaing. I can guarantee you that many people that went to see BatB have no idea she has another movie now.

You can say the same for Tom Hanks, his face is huge in the poster and he appears a lot in the trailers, he has a lot of fans, like Emma but they didn't show up to see the Circle like they showed up for Inferno, I can also guarantee you many of them don't know he has a new movie (just the ones like you or me that follows every step of an actor). Sorry but denying that many people were interested in her is like saying this is the first bad movie from Tom Hanks. You can like her or not but you can't deny there is a huge interest in Emma Watson and I'm under the impression you're trying to convince everyone that no one cares about her, which is not true.

Daff said...

Ross, I don't think Emma gets hurt for bad comments, she already said she doesn't check comments on her social media "for her own sanity" (those were her words), she only said she felt upset because of the comments against her from other feminists because she felt they misunderstood her message, and that was at the beginning of her UN compaing. And here we are just having a debate, and as fro troll comments, they are just stupid.

RT said...

I was not getting anywhere appealing to your better nature so I tried an experiment. The indignation and anger you feel at what I wrote is what Emma, anyone actually feels about the comments you, whoever you are make. You at least know who it is saying it.

How you feel now is what she feels. Get the point now.

Anonymous said...

Ross, I see nobody (other than yourself)expressing indignation or anger, but rather bemusement or perhaps despair regarding your behaviour.

She is a high profile activist/actor. I find it amazing that you are suggesting that comments, which at most are mildly critical, on a blog that Emma almost certainly doesn't read, will affect her.

You are supplanting your emotions for hers.

It is not normal, it is not healthy, you are now basically in 'Leave Britney (Emma) alone' territory.

I have no idea if you carry this behaviour into your everyday life (but suggesting flying to Poland to see The Circle is perhaps indicative that you do) but whilst interest/fandom is fine, there is a point if it moves into obsession that it will affect relationships, family, friends, work etc.

Your life should not 'dependent' on what Emma feels, what Emma does.
I strongly suggest you try to get back to the 'normality' you presumably had at some point before this obsession took hold.

Anonymous said...

I was just gong to say the same thing. She said that she does not listen or read what is said about her in the social media. That is a very healthy decision. She understands that celebrity are under grandiose praise or criticism. She goes her own way, and I like that.

RT said...

The problem is you all take my comments as aimed at you personally in the post above I was talking specifically at the person who replied with swear words.

On the more general point Emma took the sensible precautions because if the comments she gets online form some quarters.

Posting in these recent threads about everything form her dress sense to personal hygiene. If you have made those comments my post was aimed at you if you did not and have not made a post you would not like to receive fine.

Anonymous said...

The comments were based on pictures that were presented in the blog. What was said is what one saw. Looking unkempt can be style, butit does not fit to Emma.

Amen 🙏🏻. There is no "like" button here as on Facebook so I write it : you're absolutely right on everything.

The problem is he tried to pull this shit over at OSS where he wants to silence ANY kind of negative comments about Emma. When he tried it there the moderators were quick to shut him down and rightfully so. Seems from what ive seen on this site everyone can handle both praise and negative comments except him. I think that is pretty telling.

This is an example of what I am referring to:
http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/news/a827231/emma-watson-doesnt-read-social-media-comments-for-her-sanity

Now I ask you all to read your posts and see if you would like to receive them. I don't like the idea of Emma or any woman having to pull back from social media because of the treatment they receive.

I won't be part of such exchanges and ask if you, whoever you are do.

Anonymous said...

What are you talking about Ross? All that was ever said on the blog was in response to the pictures and articles. I think you have a fixated idea that she is pulling back from social-media which she is not. These are opinions about her movies and the way she presents in magazines. Nobody is bashing her private life. No offense, but this is going into the ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

She does not read social.media in order to keep her sanity. That is nothing new. Most celebrities protect themselves in this way. Dan Radcliffe and Rupert Grint have already said that they do not read about themselves in the internet. I think that is smart.

RT said...

My point being why is it smart if personal comments about her take the latest thread pictures of her. Comments about cellulite, which all women have, none I know want to have pointed out or compared to others.

So if we all checked out post to avoid comments that could offend maybe we can make it so people can read about themselves, why not

Anonymous said...

Trust me, EW has way better things to do than hang around reading fan sites.

RT said...

If that were so she would never have experienced the probkems she mentions; be that as it may we could all try and make it better if she should ever decide to. Why should the trolls have all the air time. If the Internet was more considerate of peoples feelig and less of trolls maybe would be better for us all. The bad behaviour is centred of some celebrities so could be the place to start making the difference.

Who better than Emma women being the target of so much of this abuse. Who would not like there comment if it is read by her to be a nice one really.

Anonymous said...

Because that just isnt the real world. The world is not always nice or fair but the moment you try and silence people's voices (good or bad) is when you try to encourage another form of oppression. Imagine if you will a guy like Trump and the mean things that get said about him? Now think what if he wanted to silence you not to say bad things (whether true or not) about him on the web or in person?

Its a dangerous path to go down when trying to dictate what people can or cannot say. One of the greatest freedoms someone can have is their using their voice even if what they say can be hurtful. If the site owner decided to silence you because they felt you were to obsessive how would that make you feel? Its a two way street when trying to determine who should or should not have a voice.

I would rather people have a voice than no voice at all because in some parts of the world people dont have that luxury when trying to fight tyranny and oppression. The minute you try and silence people from having their say is the moment you strip away their personal freedom. The best thing people can do is learn to accept that people are not always nice. In this case when i see posts i think are outrageous i simply skip over them.

Thats a conscious choice i make not to engage those that troll. The more you interact with them the more they will do it. I think its a bad idea for any celebrity to sit at home and worry about what is being said on the web. Emma is surrounded by good friends and family, she does not need to worry about what people say about her on here because it really would drive her insane. She's doing the right thing by stepping away it and living her life.

My advice is simply dont engage with them Ross. There are plenty of people on her who say great things about her including yourself. So your focus should be on those comments, not the one's you dont agree with. At some point there has to be a little self control on your part to be accountable for how you interact with them. I dont think you realize that the more you try to silence them the more they will do it because they know it affects you in this way. So in a way all you are doing is encouraging them to do it more because of your reaction. You are giving them what they want.

RT said...

World is what we make it each day. The internet and the web that runs on it is a construct as such it can be changed if we all want it too.

I would be me the haters avoid rather than the other way round. Take back cyberspace make it a place no one has to back away form.

It can be done and the first step is taking care what we post and to whom we post it too.

Has to be worth a try at least.

Anonymous said...

Ross, a blog is there to discuss. Now you are trolling people's free choice. Nobody said anything bad about Emma. Now the ones on the celloids on legs and Mack's lip I agree mean. Stupidity always comes with a shovel. I did not join it that discussion with Emma and Mack in NYC because I thought it was too stupid. But such pictures invite such comments. The question is, should one present photos of Emmma in her private life? I don't think so. There is enough to present about being an actress, and if the well for getting roles dries out, she will fade and do other things. The interest will fade.Such weird pictures keep all celebrities in the spotlight. Some celebrities even call the paps when they go out, so that pictures and stories will appear. I have trimmed myself to look at the films my favorite actors and actresses make, read criticisms, maybe even a book they mentioned. For instance, I just read Mans Search for Meaning by Frankl again. I was impressed that Emma was reading such a sophisticated. Some of the other books on her OSS I would not touch with a 10 foot pole and that is alright. It is all a matter of opinion.
I think it is nice that you are so concerned Ross, and basically I think you are right, but people have the right to choose how they act on internet. If they want to be idiots, they can be. By the way, I liked your informative comments, but otherwise try to loosen up.
I doubt Emma reads any of this stuff. She protects herself and that is right. She knows there are a lot of lonely souls trolling.

Again I am only talking about making a choice to take care about what we post. Why should Emma have to take care what site's she visits.

Lets all think what we are posting and maybe more important why. If we at least eliminate the people who don't mean harm clear the way to get to the real problem.

We have a choice let's use it and make the internet a safe place for all women and maybe Emma could read what we post.

Anonymous said...

If its about choice than people are already using that choice to post what they feel like posting. In some cases Eden is already deleting comments she feels dont belong so in my opinion everything is fine in the world.

RT said...

Everything is not fine with the world Anon people particular women can have terrible time online.

Also people can be sensitive, Emma admitted she is, many others are. If you personally are careful fine just putting out there for others who may not have given what they post proper consideration.

Anonymous said...

"If you personally are careful fine just putting out there for others who may not have given what they post proper consideration."

Fair enough but i think you have been a part of this site for a while to know by now that it isnt going to change. Sometimes you have to simply accept what is and sift through the BS to focus on the stuff that does matter. Know what i mean?

Anonymous said...

I doubt Emma visits posts like this. She would be a fool if she did. She understands human nature to know that not everyone is going to agree with what she does and will have positive and negative opinions about the flms she does. She already said that she does not read what is written about her in the internet. Besides Ross no one said Emma has to take care what sites she chooses. She really has to be a me ignaited person if she looks what -to her- meaningless people write. We mean nothing to her, and she could care what we write positive or negative. But for the blogger it is interesting to read what other people think concerning the films celebrities are in.
People are going to be critical; they will say if they do not like a dress she is wearing or if the lipstick does not fit. That is the fun of a blog. Emma is not being existentially attacked, but rather she is thought about and that opinion is said. On other blogs the manager has thumbs up. like or thumbs down dislike and you click in. I in fact like reading the opinions.

Film is actually decent, doesnt deserve the hate but Europacorp completely changed the ending and cut a lot of the directors original cut because test audiences thought the ending was too bleak and dark. This was a year after they finished filming.

Emma has chosen good projects and roles where her characters have all felt different.

She was actually really good in the Circle, definitely a bright spot. It was well shot, acted all around and had a good soundtrack. Libatique set a nice visual tone but you could tell the ending was cut about and things had been changed it felt rushed.

Way better than a lot of films I've seen recently that have gotten much higher ratings. Anyways Emma was very delightful in BATB and to me she carried The Bling Ring, Colonia and HP along with Rupert.

The Circle wouldnt have been better with someone else, the directors cut will never be mentioned at all but considering what little she was given with since they scrapped the book ending and the entire point of the book and movie which it was why she signed on she did a good job with her character, it was layered and she once again displayed a very good accent. I'm american and ive lived in london and i cant detect her natural accent.

SO to you foreigners the film is watchable but theres a better film there that the studio messed with when the bough the rights, such is the fate of indie films. It also isn't a movie many people like to deal with and seem to have a cognitive dissonance about their lives reflecting what the characters go through, perhaps it rings too true.

Anonymous said...

You guys are literally idiots if you are calling her a flop and the film a flop, this was an 18million dollar film that isnt on the radar at all. Is Hanks a flop? Is ethan hawk a flop or daniel bruhl? No sometimes films dont gross a lot when a majority of people want to watch capeshit which is universally praised and skull island etc etc. Enemy starring Jake Gyllenhaal directed by VIllenueve only grossed $3.5 million is Jake a flop? Emma is one of the only relevant actresses her age and anyone saying otherwise is dim, shes been a natural for a while even Hanks said shes uber prepared for the architecture of making films and knowing that it all doesnt matter unless you are in the moment and on your game too.

She has the highest grossing film of the year, the highest grossing female lead film, and the highest grossing musical ever. So stop saying shes a flop or something she has grossed 1.8 billion dollars since harry potter and with harry potter grossed like 9 billion. Noah was aronofskys #1 opening domestically and his highest grossing film overall. Besides that these are small films, the film is going to end up making as much as it should since the studio obviously messed around with it.

I dont think Emma is a flop but i know that there are trolls who feel that way but people buy too much into those comments and shouldnt. With that said, there is also the quite reversal when fans who think that she is the greatest at everything and anything she touches. That is also a subjective viewpoint to which i dont share.

I think Emma is a good actress but still needs some work. I said after HP that i felt eventually she would win a couple of oscars in her lifetime. When it happens i dont know but i think she has that capability so as long as she can continue to work and progress as an actress. Right now, the best acting job i have seen her in outside of Hermione is as Belle (have not seen the Circle yet).

Not sure if portraying Belle will land her an oscar but congrats if it does. While ive seen all her other movies i would say that her acting was adequate but not really exceptional compared to the characters of Belle or Hermione. But most of my issues with some of her other movies to me have more problems with storylines, execution and delivery of the material, and directing. If i had to rate the other movies ive seen outside of HP this would be the scores i would give them for various reasons that i posted above.

My Week with Marilyn 5/10 (Support)
Perks of Being a Wallflower 8/10 (Lead)
The Bling Ring 6/10 (Lead)
This is the End 9/10 (Cameo)
Noah 8/10 (Support)
Colonia 7/10 (Lead)
Regression 4/10 (Lead)
Beauty and the Beast 10/10 (Lead)
The Circle ? (Lead)

So for me so far she has been pretty hit or miss depending on the film. But the ratings i give are not solely based on her acting as i find some of the other things about the movies to be problematic.

On a side note i recently had a chance to view the movie Kristy to which apparently the director really wanted Emma to do it but was turned down. Standard horror/thriller affair and there are better movies in the genre but i found it was still better than Regression by miles. I think it would of been interesting to see Emma in the lead role in that film and think she would killed it (pun intended).

Plus, she would of gotten to act alongside Ashley Greene which would of been kind of cool.

"Why rate someone's abilities you can its human to judge but why post it where the person could read it?"

Well, you kind of answered your own question here. Yes, i have the right to do it here. This is a EW fan site and the discussion some people where having wee about some of her movies. So, in return i gave my own opinion since i like to watch movies in general as a past time.

Secondly, i dont believe for a second that EW visits this site. She has a life that many people wish they had and that doesnt include sitting in front of the computer reading comments from people that dont mean anything to her and rightfully so. I would be pissed off if she didnt enjoy the fruits of her labor. I know if i had her life i sure as hell wouldnt be sitting in front of a computer all day. Screw that. lol

At the end of the day this site if for us, not Emma. Eden allows us fans to keep up to date on what she is doing and allow us to have discussions about it. That is the purpose of this site and as Eden puts it so as long as we are being civil than there should be no problem and not rules have been broken. At some point you have to come to terms with the reality that the world does revolve around you and your opinion is not the only one that matters. You keep saying you are a feminist but a true feminist would actually understand what im talking about here.

"If you want everyone to read your every thought then look you up on facebook so be it,"

Having actually researched who he was on FB that is not a good idea. If people already thought he was creepy that would scare them more. lol
