I would not be surprised if she gets a graduate and post-graduate degree. I really see her in the academic world, maybe helming and producing films, creating stories, but acting...nowadays everyone thinks they can be an actor, but there are few young people that are really good and will last to their 30s and beyond.
I have been thinking that for a while. Usually there is a buzz about who is being considered for roles. Everything is limp around Emma. She probably is not getting the role offers that she would like. I understhand that one would not want to just take any role- chainsaw Emma. She's smart and has enough money to be able to realize her dreams in anything she wants to do. Maybe acting is not hers if she is not willing to train more. That's fine; she has loads of other talents. I wish her the best.
Im not sure that inactivity means anything really. She clearly is very choosey in what she wants to do so maybe there just isnt anything that has peaked her interest as of late. Or as someone above mentioned maybe she is ready to move on from the industry and concentrate on her activism and personal life. Its really just a guessing game at this point as no one outside of her personal circle is privy to that type of information.
Emma looks sooo pretty. I really hope she trains and stays in the industry. I will miss not seeing her on screen. Maybe she is waiting for the right role and being picky.
Good that she is commited to her cause. Hope she does not only focus on that. On the acting front it looks very empty sadly. Beauty must have given her some scripts. Hollywood wont wait forever.
I think that she should focus more on education. It's good for her.Feminism and acting have been backfiring at her for too long so if she did quit it I wouldn't be surprised at all.
But her acting is not flexible even if she is bankable. Her talents lie in the academia. My opinion, but I think she has reached her limits in acting. Unless she has focused training to overcome weakpoints, directors will lose interest and so will fans. Unless you are a blind fan and are willing to take anything because its Emma is seldom. Most people grow into wanting quality. paying movie tickets is expensive enough.
Feminism has been backfiring, because Emma is unclear where she stand. Feminism is not just about choice and doing what you want. That is a great misunderstanding of feminism. Feminism is also pronouncing the woman with all her gifts.
I think it's a mix between Emma being choosey and not having enough time to really work on something new. She has been pretty busy this year, especially with the promotion of Beauty and The Beast. And last year she took a break from acting so I'm not worried. As I said, we know she is very choosey or maybe she is just auditioning a lot. We can't know. I don't think she is done with acting or she would have announced it herself just like last year she announced her break from acting. The truth is that we don't know what she is doing. As fans, we can only guess. Only Emma knows what she is doing. Maybe we'll get some new info in two weeks since she is going to be in Paris for The Circle. She even has said she can't wait to bring what she learned for Beauty and The Beast to the rest of her career and that she would love to play a character like Nicki in The Bling Ring again so I'm not worried. And it seems she will be the most paid actress in the world so that will bring some scripts to her I guess. Maybe she is just waiting for the right script, maybe she is just auditioning or maybe she is just enjoying the success she is having and taking a step back. Periods like this are normal for actors. It's just a guessing game at this point as I said.. but I have faith in Emma so we only have to wait and see!
I can understand that she is taking a step back now, but her imdb has nothing listed in the tube. The fact is, she is not that excellent of an actress to be that picky. Most critics agree that Beauty and the Beast would have been that successful with any Belle because of the story in itself. I believe that. That tale in itself is beyong any actress being in it. I'm glad that she was able to harvest from the fruit, but that would have been so for anyone that had the role. She was extremely lucky. I think though, that the directors are looking for more s´honed skill in being able to play the emotional side of a character in a believeable way. If she steps back for awhile, I hope she does some serious training if she means to stay in acting.
Yeah, I think her pickiness might be her biggest problem. I think she largely wants to do big movies, with award winning directors and big name actors. I wish she'd let that go and try out an indie or two. It'd be interesting to see how she did.
This is a lovely photo of Emma and it's how I like to see her without all the fancy "packaging" of a Premiere. She really does look lovely and natural and whatever she chooses to do now I wish her all the very best.
You would have to be pretty ignorant or naive to believe that her choosing to be picky has anything to do with how good or bad of an actress she is. Its really quite simple, she can be choosy or picky because she has already made money and is financially secure. If you think she is not that good of an actress than great, thats your opinion but you are incorrect in thinking that she cant afford to be picky about what she wants to work in.
The reality is she has that luxury to where she can be picky because she has already been successful in her acting career to allow that option. Emma Watson is not in dire straits, she will not be homeless if she doesnt do a movie every other week. She could quit now and still live a very nice life. Whether or not EW was "lucky" is also irrelevant to what i believe to be stupid criticisms. Luck plays a part for many people on a daily basis, but its what one does with it that counts.
The sad reality for those who think she sucks is that she is very rich, she has a brand as an actress that those at Disney wanted to be in their film and it grossed over a billion dollars. Yep, she made quite a bit of money off that movie alone and is sitting pretty financially. She wont be forced to go and make Sharknado 12 anytime soon. She can be picky, she will be picky, because she can afford to be picky. She isnt obligated to make just any film because some fans have unrealistic expectations of her. She is in a great situation where she can do whatever she wants whenever she wants.
Totally agree with you! Well said! I'm only saying she is a very good actress (in my opinion) but that she still has a lot of unexplored potential. Can't wait to know what she is doing next and to know about her next project, that's all! :)
It's not all about money. You have to have some kind of love and dedication for what you do. A professional actor is always improving no matter how much money she/he has. That's when you know that you are looking at someone who's destiny was to act and Emma said herself that she's not such a great actress. Her honesty is admirable although she hasn't been improving since Harry Potter and I can't help but think that Harry Potter made her famous and successful because since then she hasn't been doing any huge projects. No one said that she sucks because she's rich. That's very immature to say.She doesn't suck but you would think that after all these years of acting she would get better and that's what people want to see. They want to see her doing big projects, get an important movie award. This is something you call "unrealistic expectations" but I call it being a fan.Criticism is needed just like praise because without it we can't be better.
Agree 100% anon 11:17... Emma has not really improved her acting skill since HP. She was excellent as Heromine, but she is no longer an adolescent and should learn to used her emotions in a more mature way besides, screeching, laughing and wailing like a wailing woman hired for a funeral. Her emotions are extreme. Then again, her roles are more adolescent roles up to date. Of course, she can be picky and wait for the right role to come along if it ever does. But the fact is, she has not perfected her skills, honed her potential. Directors will lose interest because the fans will lose interest if she does not develop. Like the above anon said, "...after all these years of acting she would get better and that's what people want to see..." I agree. I no longer watch adolescent films. If that is all Emma continues doing, I will not watch her in film because of lack of interest in teen films. I would have loved to have seen her in a film like the Danish Girl. Since she paints and is an artist, that would have been a great film for her. The fact is, though, she does not have Alicia Vikander's range. I think she could have that, but she needs to take the time to train. I don't think she thinks that for herself. I know that she said that she was the worst actress in her acting class at Brown. I don't believe for a moment that she really believes that. Also, I see no point in her activism. What she says in Feminism is nothing new, and she is spreading herself too thin where at the end everything backfires because nothing is that believeable what she undertakes. Just my opinion. Lou
people are absolutely crazy thinking she will give up, when she makes the best interviews Most of the actors don't care making interviews or just do it quickly
It seems all of the HP stars are fading. Bonnie Wright is developing step by step- has the training to realize her dream. In the long run she will make the headlines. Rupert is also stuck- great Ron- but has not developed. Dan , well doing better than the others. Evanna is vegen but not acting. Matthew Lewis is coming step by step with good film. Emma had a fast, impressive run to the top with a lucky streak with Belle, but ... All of them, other than Wright, who is into directing, need serious training if they want to make it in the industry.
It seems all of you are experts about acting lol btw, I think she should work on something like the bling ring or noah. She was very good in both of them and also good in perks of being a wallflower and colonia. I don't think it's casual that her best performances (at least in my opinion) were in the bling ring and in noah with two of the best directors out there as Sofia Coppola and Darren Aronofsky.
I teach drama in high school and have acted in the German National Theatre in Mannheim. Yes, I do know something about acting. Yes Emma was good in Noah, but her portrayal of emotions was hyper but not really emotional in the deepest sense and compared to Jennifer Connelly. If you compare the two with their emotional scenes with Noah, there is a world of differences. Emma is good, but she needs to do something for herself if she wants to remain in acting. The money maker actress did not pull for The Circle, which is more or less a flop in the States. What happens is Europe is yet to be seen.
Is Darren Aronofsky making more films with her? He just directed Jennifer Lawrence in Mother. Besides she was not his first nor second choice for Noah. He wanted Dakota Fanning.
Well, Jennifer Connelly is a great actress with way more experience than Emma so I wouldn't compare the two of them! :) Since we are talking about Noah, I found Emma greag in those birth scenes. So believable! As you said, I think Emma is a really good actress but she still has a lot pf unexplored potential.
Who cares if she wasn't the first choice? She got the role and that's what matters! lol Even Emma Stone wasn't the first choice for La La Land but when Emma Watson turned down the role, Stone got it and then won an Oscar. Do you think Stone cares she wasn't the first choice? ;)
You are right, it is unfair to compare Emma with Jennifer, but in the film the viewer can not help but notice. I also think she has unexplored potential, but I also believe she needs help tapping into that gold mine of potential.
I really enjoyed Colonia and was sorry it wasn't given more exposure here in Britain. I also enjoyed Perks and BatB. I haven't seen The Circle yet and I'm not sure if it will be my type of film. I don't go to see a film because of who is in it, the subject matter has to interest me as well.
As to Emma's feminism I can't really say much because I have never been able to get my head round it. I'm female, do what I want and when I want, constantly updating my education etc., but I have never labelled myself a feminist as I consider myself just a person hopefully showing kindness to most others.
Anyway good luck to her whatever she decides to do (or not) with her career.
Anon 8:10 you expressed your self as woman and what the woman has. Of course there are women that are abused, but that is another problem- violence in the family. Feminism does not solve that problem.Feminism has become a cosy ism. Like you said you are updating your education, because that is what you want. You do what you want. I guess she does to, but a total waste of time unless she goes to the Middle East and parts of Africa and puts herself on the line for women. I'm sorry, but show feminism is just a rainbow bubble bath.
I think she might quit acting but not necessarily the entertainment world. Although I did read about a Beauty and the Beast, 2, where she supposedly said that she would have a school in the castle and be a teacher.
We need both people in a marrige to respect one another. One may not know this fact, but that men are also abused in marriage, brutally beaten by their wives. The problem is much deeper than an ism.

Can't shake the feeling that she's done with acting.
It's already been 4 years since she graduated.
I would not be surprised if she gets a graduate and post-graduate degree. Well, the imdb is empty and no bu'buzz', yes guessing game but not too far fetched.Don't think the roles are knocking at her door.
Emma looks sooo pretty. I really hope she trains and stays in the industry. I will miss not seeing her on screen. Maybe she is waiting for the right role and being picky.
Just because she is Oxford's visiting fellow, she has to be done with acting? That doesn't make sense to me.
nah, people are just wondering what she's up to because she hasn't chosen anything new since 2015.
I wouldn't be so sure. She's really bankable right now still. I'd say she just takes a step back.
Good that she is commited to her cause. Hope she does not only focus on that. On the acting front it looks very empty sadly. Beauty must have given her some scripts. Hollywood wont wait forever.
