Emma Watson will be at the HeForShe Arts Week inauguration on March 8, 2016

The inauguration will take place at 3pm GMT. (edit: apparently it'll start at 1.30pm instead? I'm confused)

As part of the International Women’s Day commemoration, UN Women is launching a new initiative aimed at leveraging the arts for gender equality – HeForShe Arts Week.

The launch event will take place at the Public Theater (425 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10003), an inaugural partner, and bring together two UN Goodwill Ambassadors, Emma Watson (UN Women) and Forest Whitaker (UNESCO and UN Advocate on the Sustainable Development Goals) for a lively conversation on gender equality and women’s rights.

Chirlane McCray, First Lady of New York City, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women and Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater will speak at the event.

The HeForShe Arts Week will run from March 8-15, 2016, during which time partner institutions, throughout the city of New York will highlight efforts towards gender equality and women’s rights, and support UN Women’s work by donating a percentage of proceeds.

I think others have asked the same question but we don't know - maybe there had been threats.

I would like to shed a little light on the image “anonymous” posted.

Mrs. Watson wasn’t segregated from the rest of the graduates, although she did have an undercover female officer with her at all times. The woman was armed, but wore a cap and gown so as not to distract from the ceremony. I believe this was at the request of her agent or possibly the university, and not something she wanted. The two police officers, standing at the door are, sadly, a sign of the times, and not there because of her. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if the university increased security to prevent any obsess fan, or overzealous photographer, from ruining the ceremony.

That was Ms Watson's traveling companion who has been photographed many times at her side, back and front.
